Check this out (http://www.off-road.com/ford/tech/pressure.html)
Here's a quote from the article that made me roll my eyes:
>Radials are the only way to go for serious off-road use. I have never - REPEAT NEVER - seen a really good non-radial tire for off-road work.
And another gem:
>If you're running monster sized tires, like 44 inch Gumbo Mudders, there's no reason for you to air down in the first place.
I better go out and educate some of the locals
Now I get the feeling he is talking about Baja style runnng. But why the rockcrawling picture at the top of the article? Maybe radials grip the spotter better?

Yeah, Mr. Semen doesn't know what he's talkin' about. I hate that we have to watch every idiot who comes on their first trail ride try 3 or 4 obstacles at 30PSI before we can convince them to air down.
For some reason they assume that dirt & water on top of the rock removes the need for the tire to confirm to it...
"Hey, dumbass! Mud doesn't clean out of a tire when the carcass isnt flexing."

Thanks. I needed the laugh. By the way, how is a radial supposed to grab rocks after it's been sliced open, again?

Here's some more goodness:
"The lowest pressure I have ever run is 4 p.s.i... Naturally, you have to completely avoid rocks or any other sharp stuff at this low setting"
"On rocky terrain, like the Mint 400, I always ran maximum pressure."
"On mixed terrain with a mixture of deep sand and some rocks, 28 p.s.i. cold was always our choice."
Perhaps, by "rocky terrain" he means his driveway.

Actually, Rick is a pretty well known Baja (desert) racer... but from his comments it doesn't look like he would know a hardcore trail if he tripped over it. Much less tried to run it.

If you just want a super comfortable ride, say for chattery fire roads, try 22 to 24 p.s.i. and it'll smooth the ride out amazingly well. Thats funny if I wanted a nice ride I'd bought a cady and stayed on the highway what a %##@%:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:
Rick also used to do a lot of writing in dirt bike mags about a decade ago. He's been around a long, long time. Reading a lot of his previous work, I wouldn't say he's a dumb a$$ but rather he has never dabbled in rock crawling. Please also note he's posting in what looks to be the FORD section. Everybody here should know, unless you are visiting from some other board 'cause you heard we are the shiat, Ford's aren't meant to be off road.

Naw, he's a dumbass. It's on the second page with a picture from one of the rockcrawling competions and the caption: Tire Pressure: What Works, What Doesn't and Why . Maybe it was meant as an April Fools article?
But wait, it gets better, there's a direct link in the Jeep section too. Here. (http://www.off-road.com/jeep/) And then right above that there's an article titled " The Art of Spotting", ironic the spotter is getting driven over in the next article.....
