: 6.2L/SM465 ... possible?
dkirkup 11-15-2004, 08:41 AM Any suggestion on how to put a mid 80's 4spd behind a 83' 6.2l diesel. All I can find is autos behind that engine.
Will a 6.5l flywhell work or am I SOL. The truck currently has a blown 350TBI with SM465 and I don't really want to convert to a auto.
nvrenuf 11-15-2004, 09:15 AM I don't know about the 6.5 flywheel interchange but I have seen a factory 6.2/4spd 4wd before.
dkirkup 11-15-2004, 09:18 AM oh really ... my search for parts conitues than ... maybe I need to us a better beer filter to find the right info :)
PartTimeAdult 11-15-2004, 11:44 AM I had an '84 K20 with that combo - very nice..I think they went to hydruolic linkage in '85, 84 was mechanical.
Diesel40 11-15-2004, 12:23 PM For the flywheel, try www.peninsulardiesel.com ! This is where I got mine from. I have a 6.2/sm420/3speedcase in my FJ40. These guys are great to deal with. Just a satisfied customer-blah, blah, blah.....good luck.
u2slow 11-15-2004, 07:41 PM Stick/diesel never came in the Suburban or Blazer.... its a pickup exclusive.
I got my 6.2L flywheel at an autowrecker. Try www.car-part.com
You can also get new from Napa, Lordco, or whatever the parts stores are called in your area.

That's correct ... I have a 4spd/205 from an 83' 1ton that I am going to be using
Do you know if I can use a "J" type flywheel on a "C" type engine. There is a flywheel from a J engine back east but nothing in canada for a C type. Trying to stay away from cross boarder rip offs
Budru 11-17-2004, 06:01 AM I am currently putting a 6.2 in my sm465 equipped Blazer. The bellhousing and motor mounts are all the same, the only swap specific items I think I will be buying are the flywheel and the clutch. There were two different single mass flywheels made, the lighter one is 49 pounds and im not sure how much the heavier one weighs. I think the same clutch can be used with either. Avoid the dual mass flywheel which I believe came out in 95. Other than that Im pretty sure the 6.2 and the 6.5 flywheel is the same. I got my flywheel from Partsamerica.com They sell reground flywheels for a decent price and I didn't have time to go scrounging.
let us know your findings
Good luck mang
justscoutin 11-17-2004, 07:44 AM my stuff came that way factory. works great. only custom thing you'll need will be the flywheel and clutch. everything else works. i've seen flywheels on ebay also. just gotta be patient or do the car-part.com thing. only difference in J code and c code is the emissions and intake.
dkirkup 11-17-2004, 10:02 AM I can get a 88' 6.2'L flywheel/clutch/presure plate from an 88' 1ton 5 speed I think "J" ... will that work on my 83' 6.2L "C"? I am thinking so :smokin:
Also, I should be able to take the EGR S$%T off the engine for some more ponies. Any other suggestions, loose the intake resinator, 3" free flow exhaust (maybe dual)
TNScrambler 11-17-2004, 11:16 AM I can get a 88' 6.2'L flywheel/clutch/presure plate from an 88' 1ton 5 speed I think "J" ... will that work on my 83' 6.2L "C"? I am thinking so :smokin:

Yes, the "J" code refers to HD or Non-emissions, the "C" code is light duty and has a big fat EGR right in the center of the intake. That is the only difference in these motors just the intake....some earlier versions had different valves, but a flywheel will interchange for both. Most Suburbans and Blazers will have "c" codes as they are light duty, where as most 3/4 or 1 tons where "J" code as they were 8600 GVW and over.

dkirkup 11-17-2004, 01:37 PM Alrighty then ... just placed the order of a flywheel. I found out that clutch, pressure plate and through-out bearing are the same as the gasser. So my current bellhousing clutch assembly will work. I am all ready to convert my 2wd 350 crew cab into a 4x4 6.2 diesel. Should a couple of weeks to complete the swap. I think that I am going to swap in the Jimmy harness until I can find a diesel burb harness
AirTrooper 11-17-2004, 06:40 PM How did this project turn out?

Are you sure the gasser clutch will work? I was thinking that I was going to have to buy a diesel clutch for some reason
u2slow 11-17-2004, 07:52 PM The disc and pressure plate are the same part numbers wether its for a 350, 6.2L diesel, or 454. I've also laid my 350 clutch ontop of the 6.2L flywheel and the holes line up.
dkirkup 11-18-2004, 05:40 AM u2slow is correct ... I got this information from NAPA they list the same part number for a 350 and 6.2 clutch pack.

Still in the gathering parts phase ... actually, once I get the flywheel in my hands I will have everything I need.
