Most people know how easy this is, the hard part is finding the single wheel 60 hubs without getting raped.

I didn't know it was that easy:eek:

Of course, if I could fing a 60 maybe I would:(

No joke, it's finding the damn parts:rolleyes:
Local Chevy dealer wants like 450 per side for the bearing hubs! And the junkyard guys just do that sinister chuckle.
Um, anybody want to trade Dodge external lockout bearing hubs for Chevy ones? C'mon, sure ya do... :flipoff2:

edit: that axle is one rusty SOB!

I found a guy that will sell me new single ones for $165 a side if I trade in my dually hubs, I think that is still too much $$

I just sold a few sets of single wheel hubs for $250 a set. No wonder everyone jumped on them. I found a whole bunch at once and didn't realize they were that rare.

Unfortunately, I live in the heartland of the rust belt. It snowed yesterday, and my car is covered in about ¼" of road salt. :(

Is it just me or does the duallie hub look like the hub face could be machined/cut off and the lugs relocated to the "single wheel" position?

And another thought: would HMMWV wheels work with the duallie offset? Has anyone tried? Whats the offset of a set of Budds?

Slagburn
02-05-2002, 06:26 PM
What do you mean? They're not rare at all. In fact if you get some more I'll buy a set- um- and see if they look like all the local ones out here! :D

yeah i think you could machine the flange that the dually rim bolts to and use the flange that the rotor is bolted to. why would this not work?

Hayraker
02-05-2002, 07:42 PM
Yes, it can be done, you have to machine the hub down enough for the wheel center to fit over and put your lugs thru where the rotor attaches, several people on this board have done it. It has been posted on here before.

I am thinking of just making some custom wheels with budd centers to run on mine and use a dually rear so all four cornes match. I already have a bunch of old budd wheels for the centers, weld them in 16.5" rims, weld a safety bead, & some weld on beadlocks that I think I can trade for, and have a "real one ton"

Dude, I got a steal on mine then. I had a dually 60, and wanted the single axle setup. I poset on a diesel registry and someone wanted to convert their sigle axle to a dually setup. I traded straigh accross. All it cost me was the shipping cost of ....get thes... $35.00 I had a single wheel 60 for 635 all ready to go into my rig.

easy enough but, does it matter what manufacturer truck the 60 came from? for example, will the single wheel hub assemblies off a ford d60 fit on a dually d60 from a chevy truck. i assume so but want to be sure. since they are both danas and both 8x6.5 bolt pattern i see no problem but y'all know better then i. what about brakes? is just the hub/rotor assembly swapped or do you need to swap caliper brackets as well??

I guess I think they are too expensive because I only have $200 in my dually front.

Here is the e-mail he sent me last week.

1 Ton....

here's just a few differences between the chevy 60, and the ford

KNUCKLE: CHEVY 6-BOLTS SPINDLE MOUNT
FORD 5 BOLT SPINDLE MOUNT

SPINDLE: CHEVY IS APPROX 1" LONGER THAN FORD

HUBS: CHEVY AN BE USED WITH 35 OUTER STUBS

BRAKES: FORDS ARE EASIER TO GAIN MORE WHEEL CLEARANCE

ROTORS: CHEVY IS 1.5" THICK FORD IS ABOUT 1.25

other than that, most of the stuff is switchable..........

I'm doing alot of investigation/research for my junk right now.

I'll be reporting my findings soon..........

What about Dodge parts? are they similar or useable on a chevy or vice versa?

Myself, I am trying to find a dually front diff assembly for my '92 Dodge. Someone "stole" the front end out of it... I guess that's what I get for buying someone elses parts truck and trying to rebuild it.

I'm not sure about mating rotors and studs to these hubs, but Jeff's bronco graveyard has "econo" 8 lug Chevy/Dodge 60 hubs new for $55 a piece.

http://broncograveyard.com/products/cat/13/263/11711

Maybe these only work with "3/4 ton" brake setups?

Billavistas D60 writeup talks about machining the duallys for a SRW setup and why he is against doing it.

Where have you guys been the last couple of months. GM recently dropped their prices on the hub/rotor assy's. Brand new in the box for a hub and rotor with races 165.00 each. It has been talked about very recently on this board.

I know for the 85.5-97 ford 60's, you can just use the hub setup of a dana,50, which are a dime a dozen in the JY's.
I wonder if that setup will work on any other 60's?

Can I stick Chevy king pin knuckles on a Ford king pin housing.

I got a CUCV real cheap. I've got a Ford D60 in my jeep now. I have high steer and an ARB.

I hear the Chevy knuckles are less likely to crack from high steer arms and I want to run 35 spline outer shafts.

Am I on crack or is this a worth while swap?

I've already done that to my front end to make it SRW. The Wheel hubs are exaclty the same.

Yea like said above, it was covered recently a lot, like all you veterans say SEARCH all you newbs.Do a search for member name 1980cj7 :flipoff2:
Whoever is getting $200 a side used is F***ing nuts. The new G.M. ones are complete with rotor and races already pressed in.

Btw Thanks for the pics in the original post because a lot of people do think it's harder that it is. :grinpimp:

reddman
02-18-2005, 12:29 AM
finished product, minus the 1/4 to 3/8 steel wheel spacers i wanna weld on there for extra support...

J Kimmel
02-18-2005, 05:17 AM
Thats how I did mine. I didn't bother with a spacer for extra support, the flange for the wheel stud is about 1/2" thick!

I paid $100 to machine mine down:)

Mechanos
02-18-2005, 07:08 AM
What diameter did you turn the hub down to?

reddman
02-18-2005, 09:20 AM
i think it was 4.25" at the face of the hub (next to where the drive flange goes). i put a 1.8 degree taper on it and i think it was about 4.5" next to the new wheel mt flange. for some reason i remember the stupid 1.8 for the taper, but not the diameters. i love cnc's, after i rough cut it on the lathe in the pic, i did the taper and radius on our haas tl1. sweet machine.

oh, and the reason i wanted to add a support is cause the new wheel mt flange is welded on, not cast in, so theres just not as much material between the flange and hub as a normal srw hub.

Yes, They do. They want $185 a side ($370) for just the hubs and no discs. I am trying to find them cheaper. Everyone keep saying that you should be able to get hub and disc cheap but I can't seem to find any. So, I am asking where they are getting them?
