Another haunted Range Rover!
I bought this truck way too long ago, it had no oil pressure, I obtained a used engine.
Time passes, it's not a high priority, slow progress.
For some reason, I never bothered to turn the engine all the way over. I just confirmed it wasn't "Stuck".
I'm gettin' close to puttin' it back and need to torque the pulley down. Turns out the engine won't turn all the way. Tear it down step by step to find a rusted cylinder. Not bad, but too bad for an engine in the wife's truck :grinpimp: . So I drag another short block out from my secret stash (last one). Pull the cam out of the original 4.2 (150K miles) and as I'm withdrawing it, I notice one lobe is smaller than the others. Grab a caliper and the number three exhaust lobe is severely worn, greater than the the next by almost 0.100". I pulled another cam out of storage (3.9, 90K miles-est.) , while it wasn't as badly worn as the first one, the same lobe showed heavy wear.
I have one last cam to check out before I take somebody up on the 4.2 they keep pimpin' to me :flipoff2:
Bad enough I have to pay for new head gaskets, water pump, motor mounts, etc now it looks as though I may be in for a cam too.
Anybody else observed such camshaft wear? I wonder what the oil distribution is that accelerates wear at this point?
Pictures to come if I can make them fit the board.
Peace,
PT
