I have a 5.3 Vortec from a Suburban. The oil pan is approximately 8.5 inches deep and about 8 inches wide.

I am looking for an oil pan that is not as deep. Any ideas?

I know the Corvette has a very shallow one with 'wings', probably not a good fit.

I have seen pictures of one that is shallower, with the sump starting farther forward but can't fine a reference to which vehicle they come in.

Thanks,

Steve Gardiner

I have one on a 305 that i can measure for you. Not to sure if it will fit a vortec motor tho.

No, I don't believe it will even come close to fitting. The 5.3/6.0 motors are gen3 (corvette LS1) platform motors and are pretty much a totally new design from the 55-87 gen 1 motors and 88-2000ish gen 2 motors.

If you are not able to find your shallow sump pan you speak of you could always cut your pan to fit and weld a new bottom in it but you would also have to modify the oil pickup.

I think I am on track.

Gen III Engines (http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0609_ls1/index2.html)

Looks like the 98-99 Camaro Pan is the best.

There are also aftermarket possibilities from Street Performance.

It's only a matter of $$$.
