I have a set of 16.5 rims lyin' around and have a chance to get 4 38.5x15/16.5 gumbo mudders. I can probably get them for nothing and they still have %40 thread.
I can still use them for driving around regardless, but I was wondering how these tires perform in the rocks.
Anybody done this?

If ya got em, run em but,,,, the sidewalls are crap! Many moons ago (when the only large size tire available were muders and groundhawgs) I ran 38" muders on my truck. I can tell you from experience that they are very soft, wear bad, dont balance and the side walls wont last long in the rocks.
But who knows, maybe they (Gateway) improved the design.

Sidewalls are paper thin. We run them up her for the deep snow, cos they flex so good. But the rocks are gonna be hard on them ! IMO:D

Hey Rich...Whats up! I keep meaning to stop at your shop and drop off your book. I never see you out in the shop!! What gives?
You have those 60s and a Atlas under that Cruiser yet?
No on 60s under my Toy.. I have 6lug 16.5rims lyin in my garage and my brotherinlaw has the mudders lyin' around at his house taken up space, just thought that I could throw them together and get some use out of them.
I'm workin on a dual case set-up now. just tryin to find a couple of cheap t/cases to do it.
