Wondering if the VIN can tell me anything about this rig?

SALLHAMV8BA151613

Also, the idle runs at about 1,800 to 2,000 and hangs there. I'm not sure if the choke is hangin up or maybe the throttle cable....but once it is in gear it's fine....strange deal! Those damn carbs look like something off a P-51 Mustang or something.

Well, so begins the saga of my first Rangie, should be lotsa fun..... :rolleyes:

Might want to look into getting a live chicken. They are good to have arround just in case.

Congrats!

Mike,

you're supposed to kill it, and smear blood over the rover...not give it to the kids as a pet!

paul (mmmm! chicken!)

Bought two chickens, one for each of those carbs. I hope they thaw out by morning!?

S = Europe
A = UK
L = British Leyland (Land Rover)
LH=RRC
A = 100" WB (Not LWB! ;-)
M = 5dr station wagon
V = 3.5ltr petrol Carb
8 = LHD 5spd manual
B = 1985-1987 model year (but other data times it as a 1985, not later)
A = Assembled in Solihull
151613 Serial number (my 151389 was built in october 1984, so your is later than that)

It's not going to tell you anymore that we've already told you in the last thread. It's the correct VIN number for a 1985 V8, left hand drive with automatic transmission.

Thanks for the breakdown. I found most of the info, but locations and build date were a little confusing.

VIN Indicates manual, not auto.
Probably been converted sometimes.

Yup, you're right...the "8" in the ninth position instead of a "4."

Interesting...

Ok, I must just not be "British" enough, I can't for the life of me figure out how to put the damn air filter assembly without unbolting the elbows......this is crazy shit!!!! This dual carb setup is starting to piss me off.

Yup, you need to remove the elbows.

I figured it wasn't anything simple. I have yet to drive the thing, except into my girlfriends garage. The idle was high and I started to check for vacuum leaks and I found a couple hoses hanging disconnected under the airfilter assembly. I really thought it was going to be a two minute fix. Time to take some tools over her house...fawk! :shaking:
