I was told today that I could take a set of D44 flat top knuckles and bolt them on my 86 cj7 D30 front and keep the rest of the D30 stuff like the calipers, spindalls, hubs, rotors, etc. Is this true?

If the two knuckles are the same, or are they? what would the
benefit be to trade to d-44 knuckles?? hi-steer only? please
elaborate.

CJ era 30s and 44s are interchangeable. Advantage of the 44 knuckle is the flat top for high clearance steering.

M/T/X/Y/Z J series 30 fronts are not interchangeable with the CJ era stuff. The C on the the inner knuckle is smaller on the newer ones.l

Lets say I put on a set of Mid 70's GM D44 flat top knuckles. Can I use my old tie rod and drag link setup? Where do I get the arms at a reasonable price? What else do I need?

Bob Roggy on this board makes good arms for a very reasonable price. You can use your tie rod and drag link if you have him make the steering arms to accept the smaller TRE's
