For those that dont know..... my latest rig is a converted 2wd. Im DD'n it for another week-ish then I can get down to finishing up the stuff Ive already started/done to it. One of these projects is the front half of the frame. On 2wds there are huge humps for were the coils go into the frame and mount. These humps make it impossible to mount shocks correctly. Mine are on there right now kicked outward at the tops  But that was the only way to do it until the "humps" could be removed.

Welders and steel techy guys, whats the best way to go about cutting the out side hump (basically taking a 12" section of the out side rail of the frame out and making it flat) off. Give me ideas of how to do this and maintain a structurally sound frame!!!

Heres the Turd when it first got the axles.... I need some new pics..

Bend a hoop and put a longer shock on?

Paul, can you go throught the center of the hump with the shock? Just and idea.

Probably the best will be to support the frame fore and aft of the hump, brace it, then cut the bulge out and plate the hole back up. Probably use a sawzall vs. a torch insure no warpage in the frame rail. I would probably go as far as disconnecting one end of the front spring so there is no pressure on the rail. Good luck.

I used a shock with a stud on top and the bottom mount goes directly on top of the axle. The stud goes in the stock upper shock location. My s10 is built on a 2wd frame and thats what I did it ...

Take a piece of 5-6 in pipe and take a plasma/torch and cut it out then weld 1/2 piece of pipe in there as kinda like a hot dog (shock) in a bun (pipe) look.....lol

i took some 1 1/2 x 5" steel 1/4" walled, and cut the hump out with a plasma torch, and welded the retangular tubing 6 inche son each side. then i made my shock hoops the mount to that. it looked neat, and the structural integ wasnt affected. ill try to get pics if i can get in touch with the new owner of the truck.
