They are both one ton transmissions. One is Ford and the other is Chevy.

The 465 was easier to work on it my op. It does have some weird collars on the tranny that are really hard to press off but I just cut them and bought new for 25 bucks. Don't have to drop the counter shaft to remove the mainshaft like the T-18. If you ever have to work on it the 465 is my vote. Plus a hair lower first gear.

I would be more worried which will work with your engine.

That's what I'd say. Don't worry about the gearing or strength. There isn't enough of a difference to pick one over the other. Pick whichever one is easiest and cheapest to adapt to your engine and transfer case.

I believe that it can be proven true.............

the SM in SM465 stands for Saginaw/Muncie..... this tranny is built by GM

the Borg-Warner T18 is built by a subsidiary of Ford.

the only drivetrain pieces that were ever built by IH or Jeep were the engines........ (excluding the model 20 diff) they both had Dana transfercases,Dana Axles, and either Dodge (727...) Ford (T-18/19/90/15/14..) or GM (TH400)built transmissions.........

I cant find anything about BW being part of Ford! Care to prove it to me?

http://www.borgwarnerbrand.com/about.html

FYI IH built it's own rear ends and T/Cs, so your statement that they only built engines is just wrong. :flipoff2:

I have stripped Borg Warner T-4's and T-5's out of CJ7's that haf FORD cast right into the case...........

Sorry for assuming that the IH - DANA 20's and the IH - DANA 300 and the IH DANA 44 rears and DANA 60 rears were not made by DANA....... how silly of me........

were you referring to IH heavy truck stuff or Scouts/travellall/fleetline P/U etc...

I'm talking about IH TC-143 transfer cases:
http://members.aol.com/eldonmcf/tcase.html
That came in Scouts

And IH Rear axles that are about D-70 in size and came in 1300 and 1310 one ton pick-up trucks

There RA-15, RA-20, RA-25

IF BW is part of Ford why did GM use them?
For example Borg-Warner T56 (Camaro 94-97) and the
T10 1957 to 1963 and the super t-10 from 1975 to 1983???
