I read the tech article and it was great, just a few questions...I will still need a mechanical e-brake on my truck to stay street legal...can anyone verify that the el dorado calipers that are mentioned in the article actually work?

and second, if anyone has actually used them, how much grinding is required to make a 15" wheel fit over them and what BS (if it matters) did the wheel have?

Thanks ahead of time
chris

The Eld Dorado calipers do have the e-brake already incorporated. It takes a bit of grinding to get the calipers to fit. Just take your time and check caliper to rim fitment periodically.

Not sure on the year calipers. Try running some searches and you should be able to come up with the answers. You also may want to try calling a shop that does these conversions frequently like Bluetorch Fabworks or Offroad Design. They can give you more info.

Use the Calipers from a 78 Chevy 3/4ton. Works perfect.

Do those have an e-brake function?
That is what the original poster really wanted out of the el dorado calipers.

The calipers with the E-brake are '76-78 El Dorado.

Good luck getting them to work properly.

havent used them personally, but my buddy has those on his 44 and they work OK. from what ive read though, they suck. because of that, i went with a driveline type ebrake setup and run the chevy calipers on my 14bolt.

thanks for the heads up on that...what is the problem with them? just dont stop well or what because if they dont work then ill just go with the driveline brake instead.

are there any other rear calipers that can be used besides the caddy units? what about rear calipers from a late model fullsize pickup? do they have an ebrake provision? I know Dodge trucks got rear discs in '01.5, and I imagine Ford and GM werent far ahead/behind.

if you adjust the caddy calipers PROPERLY, they work fine
