: Going to get the "Shaggin' Wagon from Atlanta...."
slipscomb 11-19-2004, 05:13 PM For those of you that dont remember I used to haul my Scout to events and trail rides on the back of an '86 IH School bus. While driving from Atlanta a few years ago I ejected 3 rods from the block and put it into storage in Atlanta. I finally bought another bus just to get the engine for the "Shagin' Wagon". I should be heading down around the first of Dec to drop the donor motor in and drive it back to Virginia. Anyone in the Atlanta area I sure could use some help. I have to drop the motor in at a storage lot in Ackworth, GA. For those that dont remember, here's a pic:

Will keep everyone posted of the progress.
P.S.: Hey Patrick, you still in GA?

BEN C. 11-19-2004, 06:18 PM I hope it's not at that storage lot on Glade Road near the lake. The old bastard that owns that shithole might have sold your truck or something.

Yeah, actually it is. I've kept in touch with him over the past few years and he assures me it is allright. I used to live around the corner from him when I lived there and kept the bus there. He was pretty cool then. But you're right. Anythings possible! I've talked to him recently and he said it's still there and I can come and get it.

Wish you were closer! I had to buy an entire bus just like mine, an '86 IH Thomas built bus that has not been converted just to get the engine for mine. Would be willing to sell for about $500 if someone has a motor to drop in and drive it home! They tow great. Driven mine all over the country to events and it's set up nice in the front. All the ammenities. Stove, fridge, oven, cabinets and closet, dining area and bed complete with ac and heat! Really have missed her over the past few years. Cant wait to get her back. Oh yeah, and chicks dig it! No just kidding but I did have a cop stop me and tell me to paint it a different color. Seems the've been having trouble with people buying buses and driving around picking up kids with them. :shaking:
Oh well. Hey Patrick, I think it will be around those dates but will keep you posted.

Time to click the "Unsubscribe" button.
Sorry Damien. I wish I had more pics of the bus but unfortunately was too busy wheelin and didnt think it was that cool then. Just fungtional. I will take pics of the return to service however. The "shaggin waggin" has acquired some sentimental value now.

cool idea, though. Wish mine was 4x4.
slipscomb 11-23-2004, 07:35 PM For those interested, I am planning on leaving for Atlanta next Saturday. Should take about 12 hours to get there.
slipscomb 12-06-2004, 05:57 PM Well, got the old motor out and found out the clutch is different. The original clutch has 6 broken coil springs in it. The difference is the distance from the pilot bearing to the surface of the throwout bearing. About 1 inch. The designs are completely different but I think they are interchangeable. Going to visit a local school in the morning to find out, otherwise I will have to have the pressure plate rebuilt on the original motor. Weather sucks! It's been raining since I got here. Had to work all day today in the rain and mud. I should have everything back together tomorrow if the clutches are interchangeable. Have a few pics so I will post them as soon as I get home.

Done! Try again.....
slipscomb 12-08-2004, 04:01 PM Well, the new style clutch wasn't interchangeable so I had the original one rebuilt. There goes another $150. Got everything back together and drove it around today. It sure is good to be back in the bus again. Some fond memories. Well, as soon as I get home I will scan and post pics of the one man side show that this looked like. At least I got good weather today after all the hard work was done! I will be headin out in the morning for Virginia with a layover prolly in Charlotte. Meeting with "Broncorob" about some comps next year. The bus rides again....!

slipscomb 12-13-2004, 03:57 AM Well, the trip was a success. Made it back to Virginia Friday morning. After having the original IH clutch rebuilt I got the engine installed and running finally with good weather looking over my shoulder. Only took 2 hours to install the engine by myself with a "Bobcat" skidsteer. Set the front clip back on it Wed, afternoon and headed out Thurs. morning for a stormy trip back to VA. I will get pics developed this week and hopefully have them posted soon after.

BamaScout 12-14-2004, 07:55 PM I saw a cool bus conversion at the last ride I went to. The guy had done like you and made a place in the back to haul the scout and finnished the inside like a motor home. He then built a platform on top of the bus kinda like a deck where you could go up and enjoy some cold ones and get up where you could see around. It was a pretty slick bus. I wish I had a place to put one :)
