: What front axle for a SAS on 97 s10 blazer?
K2Orion 11-19-2004, 06:58 PM I've got a 97 s10 blazer I'm gonna SAS. I'm gonna run 38" TSLs, 14FF in the rear. Gonna keep the stock trans/x-case cause I don't wanna bite off too much at once so i'm gonna need a driver drop front axle.
So what should I use in the front?
I was thinkin ford 60 but don't know anything about em. Any suggestions? Cheap is good.
I'm goin over to ford talk now to search there too. thanks
EDIT: Anybody got pics of trimmed 94+ fenders?
if the skinny 38 tsl is the biggest tire you plan to run you might get away with a ford d44rc
alway better to run a 60 but they are $$ unless you get very lucky
K2Orion 11-19-2004, 07:43 PM d44rc???
again, I'm a ford newbie. care to elaborate?

If you want some more info on a D60 swap(or even a SAS in general) into a s-10 blazer let me know, I have a buddy runnin 1ton runnin gear and 46's on his
K2Orion 11-19-2004, 08:37 PM Alaskarebel, I'll keep you in mind.
At this point its still just a plan. I just wanna know what axle I should be lookin for in the yards.
s10bogger 11-19-2004, 10:23 PM I'd have to say that the min would be a dana 44 in the front, but I would save up for a dana 60 in the front. I'm running a dana 44, 12 bolt in my s-10 right now with 36 inch TSL's. I'm expecting to break something in the diff's next summer. However I did have a buddy that ran a Scout Dana 44 in the front of his CJ for 2.5 years with 44 inch TSL's with miniminal breakage (mainly locking hubs and axle joints...never saw him blow the r&p or an actual axle shaft, and wasnèt tht kind to it either...My personal opinion was that he was just lucky) You could also check on www.s10-4x4.org It's an s-10 only 4x4 site, lots of excellent info on there.
K2Orion 11-20-2004, 07:45 AM Thanks for the replies, but...
I already have a k20 with the 38s, 14ff shaved and disced, and a d44. I know that a 44 is the minimum and a 60 is better.
So which 60 should I look for?
Any of you SAS guys use a Ford axle? Which one?
92 S-Dime 11-20-2004, 08:34 AM Jamus has got a Ford D60 front under his S10-Blazer now. It was from a 79 1 ton, its high pinion too.
any Ford 60 up to 1997 is a great axle
somewhere in the 90s they went to a ball joint knuckle which I do not mind but many here want the kingpin style
I think the ball joint will be less likely to suffer deathwobble
Shaker 11-20-2004, 03:56 PM HP 60 would be great but if you run a 44RC you might wanna look into Alloy front shafts and CTM'S
Jamus2 11-20-2004, 04:28 PM Yeah, I got a 79 F350 D60. Lucked into it for $500. If you keep your t-case, Ford or custom is the only place to get a 60, pretty sure anyways. Here's a link to what I have so far. Not complete and have too many other things going on to finish it anytime soon. buildup (www.angelfire.com/wv2/jamus2/buildupindex.html)
K2Orion 11-20-2004, 08:28 PM jamus, interesting stuff on that link
what size are the iroks? what springs did you use in the front?
Jamus2 11-20-2004, 08:37 PM Interesting? If it wasn't mine, I'd flame it, hehe. The IROKs are 39.5's for a 16.5 rim, at the time was planning on HMMWV rims. I have Wagoneer 7-leaf packs spring over. They came off a 85 Grand waggy. I had a 5-leaf combo of s-10 leaves on it before, 52" leaf. I swapped to these to keep the front spring mount and move the axle forward at the same time. And if for some reason I need more lift, I can easily swap em out for 4044s.
Big96zr2 11-21-2004, 06:03 PM I have a 60 F/R on my S-10, with coilovers in the front....wouldnt do it any other way, even though it was my second set of axles...
Here is the link too some pics of my truck (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/442983)

K2Orion 11-21-2004, 08:07 PM jamus, "interesting" was a nice way of saying fawked up!!! i was tryin to be polite since i'm a newb.
brian, I like what you've done and i got a million ???s for ya
how much $$$ do you have in in the SAS for the coilovers and links with the 60 setup?
got any pics of flex with the 60 and the iroks? do you have any issues with the links hittin anything? what did you do for brakes with the abs system? any issues with that? where did you get the batwing bracket? is 4.10 enough gear to use OD(i'm assuming its an auto) with 36" iroks?
Big96zr2 11-21-2004, 09:55 PM i have quite a bit in my setup since I have did it twice...lol....prolly around 5K with axles, labor and parts. No I dont have any flex pics with my new setup, I found out today that I really need too get some softer coils for it. I was able to twist up a little and the lower coils dont compress like they should...When we were building it, we tested full range of motion with the links and nothing hits or should. The tires will hit the back of the wheel well but that is easily fixed. The brakes are: front-stock 1 ton stuff, rear-77 chevy 3/4 ton parts. The master cylinder is the stock one with a wilwood prop valve, I think that I still need a bigger MC, but they stop good. The ABS is GONE!!!!SCRAP PILE!!! All of the brackets I got are from BlueTorchFab.com. The 4.10s are pretty good and do fairly decent on the highway, although I think 4.56s or 4.88s would be better. Hope that helps
Brian
thundr undrgrond 11-22-2004, 03:47 PM are u gonna make it full width or narrow? if ur gonna stay narrow, u could get a ford 44rc and cut it to shoebox size, then u wont need custom axles, just buy axles for a shoebox, and run a c+c 14 in the rear, or if u wanna run full, forget about 90% of what i just said ;)
