on my way home today, i stopped to look at a chevy c5500 4x4 cab&chassis med. duty truck with a duramax, the front axle in that thing was fawking huge. it was starting to get dark, i could see it was made buy dana. the center section looked as big if not a little bigger than a dana-70, the shafts were bigger than your standard 60 shafts. axle tubes were at least 4" diameter, does any body know what this one is?

I was trying to find out the same thing but only got one responce. He didn't know hardly anything either. If you want to see the responce go to page 18. {4500 and 5500 4x4???}. I still want to know more. Seems like it might make a great tow rig, especially a 5500 4x4 with the optional 7.8L Duramax. The specs I saw on it said that it was producing over 800 ft.lbs. of touque.

Did it have a 10-bolt cover like a Dana 44/60/70/80? Or was it round with a drop-out third member?
Whatever it is, its rated at 7000lbs and has a 5.13 ratio.

yes it had a 10 bolt cover, loked just like a dana-70 but i was thinking it was a little bigger, 8-lug , but the bolt circle was huge and not a standard 8-lug, to much seperation between lug nuts studs. big ass brakes also.
