: Control Arm Bushings - Where To Get?

I need a source for generic control arms bushings ... rubber preferably. I don't mind replacing rubber ones as long as they afford more movement than poly. Forget graphite.

If anyone is familiar with Rubicon Express' Jeep TJ long arm kit, I'm basically looking for those same ones. I imagine someone like Moog must make them as RE gets them from somewhere.

I've tried Energy Suspension, but couldn't find anything in a large o.d.

Thanks in advance guys.

Why not buy from RE?

Ken,

I am reusing my old RE arms. Cut and grind off the old tube.

You could do what Currie does and use Johnny Joints on both ends.

As it looks like I am a day ahead of you on this buildup.
If you are mounting the front control arms like RE does.

I didn't want to lose the clearance that my Tear BellyUp gainned. so I mount the front lower ctrol arm bracket in front of the leading bolt for the bellyup. The frame narrows in. I had to make the bracket face forward to be aligned with the lower bracket on the Axle. I finished it last night. I will take some pics and post them tonight.

Good luck

My RE short arm uses stock rubber factory bushings at the frame end. I assume the long arms are the same... Mine are all chewed up already after only a year... I still have my stock control arms though, and I've seen a few write ups about cutting the bushing out of the stock arms and having them pressed into the RE's. You can probably find someone to give you stock arms, if you don't have yours.
I'm gonna wait awhile, unless they get really sloppy. By that time though, I might go long arm and have new bushings anyhow. :D

If I'm not mistaken the long arm kit uses a setup similar to ford coil fronts. Those bushings should be easy to come buy from any place that can get you ford parts. Ford used radius arms for MANY years up until the mid 90's

Nasvik clued me in on another thread that RE does use stock Daimler-Chrysler bushings (TJ OE pieces) in its arms.

The chitty thing about that is that, unless I am mistaken, to use the stock bushings you have to have a shell with a step machined into it as the bushing shells themselves have steps on them.

While that isn't a huge deal, I do need to find access to a lathe now and a source for new bushings. I'd rather not use old, worn out bushings.

CMK,
Here's a link to a replacement. I don't see a step in the bushings that you're talking about. Maybe you won't have to worry about that....Hope it helps.

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I know what you're talking about with the step

Welby, dude, that helps a LOT!

I'm gonna' check on that Moog P/N today and see if those are in fact the same pieces.

find your way to my page, there you will find a couple of pdf files that are the Moog rubber bushing catologues and cross references...from these you can pick what you need and order by Moog part number or by application.

The other source I know of that have a lot are 18 wheeler supply places - I always get mine there - all kinds on the shelves to pick up and play with.

Mmm, boooooger .... welds. I thought it was something good, but it's snot! Ahhhh .. old joke.

Hey, I like the idea of using box tube for the mount. What's the i.d. on that there stuff, 2.5"?

That is gum not welds. It is stronger than any weld out there.

3/16 wall 3X4 tubing. and the the mount to the frame is 3x3 3/16.

I bought ford leaf spring bushings not sure exactly which year but they were just over 2" like 2.03 or something. I bought 2"sch 80 pipe which is 1.97 inside and 2.375 outside i believe had a friend quickly bore it out on the lathe and it was a nice press fit.
I also drilled several holes in the pipe so I can put a couple of spot welds so the bushing can't wander out.
