Bearings in the water pump finally quit in the 84 Toyota xtracab
The APORA-NEW (not re-man) water pump was $18.99 with the gasket from Auto Zone.
From the first bolt on the fan shroud to the test drive - it took me 45min two sockets (10mm,12mm) and two wrenches (10mm,14mm) to get the job done.
Working on my 351C Cobra Jet engine is more fun but the 22R is easier hands down…
Do you agree Japanese engines are easier?
Do you agree American engines are more fun?

I HATE working on Japanese cars/engines! Toy trucks aren't bad, but everything else I've had to turn a wrench on has been a major bitch! I'll happily work on my CJ or Chevy, but dread working on my Acura.

I'm a mechanic so I work on all different types of cars and I would much rarher work on the Jap stuff. I don't do a lot of engine work and I'm glad because pretty much any V-6 sucks to work on. Japanese cars are easier to work on. They always use consistant bolt sizes like 10, 12, or 14. American cars are always different depending on manufacturer and once in a while they throw standard size bolts on to confuse you. All car companies do dumb stuff, I just think the Japs do less of it.

I agree, my girlfriend's maxime was a PIA! I would much rather work on the ranger any day.... my friends Z on the other hand was really easy to work on so maybe it just differs from model to model.

I would rather work on a rear wheel drive car then front wheel drive. I think american V-8's and 6's in rear wheel drive are easier then and japanese stuff. As far as water pumps I don't think a toy is any easier then a 351C from what I've seen :p

Tru Dat! Only thing I'd add that is a Con to working on Jap vehicles is that after pounding on the Jeep with a BFH, working on a Honda feels like trying to fix a swiss timepiece-- apply a little too much force and shiat starts to break real easy...

I hate working on Jap cars. Why do they have soo many vacuum lines? Just getting the air cleaner off takes an hour. Also hate working on sidewinder FWD cars of any make. Everything is soo stuffed in there and getting to the back side is a major PITA. Give me a longitudally mounted american engine any day. Since I work on all my own stuff, that's a major reason why American RWD and 4WD vehicles all I own.
