Does anyone know where to find the location where Hydraulic ifttings are to be placed on a 1980's model Chevy 4x4 Steering box. I've found plenty for the Jeeps, but nothing for a Chevy.

Thanks

I have the same question. I read that and several other threads, but none show pics of a CHEVY box. The CK5 forum is a PITA to search on, and yes I've tried.
The tap locations don't seem to work, and the pics all show Jeep boxes or boxes mounted inside the frame. Flipping the holes to the other side don't seem to make sense because they both seem to go only to one port.

Anyone have pics of a tapped Chevy box?
Thanks,
Dean

u could try theses http://www.emsoffroad.com/hydroassist.htm, i run them on my truck and the stuff works great, also if u should change to crossover, saying u dont have it already,or u kill a box, then u dont need to redrill another box. just switch the caps...

Anybody have experience with the Emsoffroad cpas on their ps box? Looks like a neat idea for those who can't drill their box or who simply don't have the time or place to do it ( I don't always have access to a garage in the winter). How well is alulminum suited to this application?

like i said, i run them and several others run them, theyre a much better alternative to just drillin the factory cap which is thin. alot of locals run them, and his teams comp rig 818 was in the top 5 on the all season, and went to supercrawl. so they must work fairly well

I think I'll consider getting those caps some time in the future. My steering is all set up on the truck and this would be quite the time saver by just not having to take the ps box off, never mind drilling and tapping it too. Thanks.

Just did my second box tonight. Its easy to do, just keep your magnets and work area clean.

Might be a stupid question, but how does that front cap come off? Is it press fit or am I just missing something? I looked at my steering box and I just don't see how it comes off.

Thanks

There is a little snap ring that pops out. There is a small hole on the bottom at the front edge of the snout of the box that lets you push an ice pic in there to pop out the snap ring.

Thanks for that info. I will look for it. That cap thing seams to be a much easier way to do it. I can drill and tap it, but I would need the correct size bit and tap for it. I would rather just buy the cap and not have to worry about the metal shavings and screwing up the tap.
