Billster and I were talking about who had mentioned interest for this year's event, so lets see who's up to it. This is one of the most fun events I've attended and the trails are awesome! We need to decide on a trail order, I'm sure it will be a combo of the usual...twister, rocatillo, patzquaro's, and hab falls.

The entry forms are will be out December 1st according to the site and trails fill up fast so lets make some decisions.

I am actually planning on it this year. Assuming my little 33's can make it through the trails.

How many people usually attend this thing? Does everybody usually camp or what?

If the truck is ready I will be there. Maybe they will honor the money I spent last year to go!...probably not!

With its long overhang and long wheelbase, an early Rangie had some trouble on those trails a few years ago. They were running 35's I believe.

Matt P. of Rockware fame did all the trails in his mild 90 with 33's, but your results may vary. You will need LOTS of body protection and undercarriage protection.

We usually stay at the Hampton Inn in Las Cruces. Many also camp at the fairgrounds where the event is centered.

Got plenty of undercarriage protection and if you've ever seen my truck you'll see I'm not too worried about body protection. If I can possibly drag my truck over stuff then I will. I find that the trails are more challenging with 33's then they were with the 35's. Plus the off-camber is less fun now! :)

Did you put a cork in the geyser on the F90 yet?

I am up for it. Can we outlaw Mogs and get all the Landrovers there for a change, KC? I suppose you will say you are waiting on me. But the longer I wait to send the CV the better chance that it will still be operational.

I'll be there probably riding with someone as all my truck are still broke. Maybe I'll take the dually offroad adjustable suspension wonder if 3" of ground clearance is enough. Maybe some day I'll have a rig again.

So what trails does everyone usually run in Las Cruces? I was looking at the registration and it looks pretty cool. At this time I am making plans to be there!

Jtisdale
12-02-2004, 07:36 AM
Larry-

As mentioned in the first post, here are the trails we usually run and why don't we call this the order:

Wednesday-Habenero Falls
Thursday-Tobasco Twister
Friday-Rocotillo Rapids
Saturday-Patsquaro's Revenge

As Bill mentioned we usually stay in the Hampton Inn on the back side where there is enough room to work on the rigs(Bill's R&P, Putnin's R&P and driveshaft, Groove Dougs tires, Fix KC's starter and adjust carb, Replace Troy's CV, Resplice my synth winch line, Weld some orange LC's rear diff...get the picture?)

I'd be up for a nite run on a shorter trail day too.

ps. Send your stuff in early (now), because the runs fill up fast.

Tis',
I guess I should read the post a little better. Is the Hampden Inn the only one in Las Cruces? Figure I might as well make a res there as well.

I noticed the trail descriptions all include a 33" tire minimum, also guessing that some of the trails are rediculously difficult so it seems they undersize things. Oh well, I'll bring plenty of spares...

Hoping to send my registration in next week.

I am in, I am putting the picks right now. Tiz, do you think that we should talk alternates just in case?

Jtisdale
12-02-2004, 09:25 PM
David-

I think if people who are interested in going send in the entry this week we should be OK. I'll email the club secretary in a week or so to see if those who posted up got the trails selected. If you haven't, post up if you've sent in your entry so I can keep a tally.

Larry- I think it is the only Hampton, ask for the one near the fairgrounds that is where the event is staged. I believe it is on La Mesilla just off I-10 about five miles east of the fairgrounds.

So how many of these trails rival Upper Helldorado? How many are closer to Prichett Canyon? Some of these sound like they will eat my truck in it's current state!

FrankenRover
12-03-2004, 11:10 AM
All of them rival Upper Hell except for the final fall (although Nemisis 3 on Pats Revenge comes close). They are all harder than Pritchett in my opinion.

Sorry guys i will not be able to make it CC. I have my rig all torn apart and do not think it will be done in time. I and doing alot of body work and changing the front end for a 90 degree approach angle. The work is going slower than I thought.

As much as I'd like to make it out to the CC this year, I won't be able too. While ya'll are wheelin' I'll be tearing my rig apart and cutting it up. Next year, or maybe I'll make it out west this summer. Gotta find a Towrig/DD now.

I'm in.............but my rig won't even be close to ready so I'd only be able to do the moderate stuff at best. :shaking: What are the chances of hitching a ride on the fun stuff? (I don't whine much) :flipoff2:

BTW, Our newsletter editor (Solihull Society) needs a seat with someone. He is planning on writing an article for LRM over the event. Anyone have one?

Jtisdale
02-03-2005, 12:04 PM
Tell him to come on, someone will have room. Usually people ride to the trailhead and for the most part walk the trail sections to watch each obstacle.

FrankenRover
02-03-2005, 12:39 PM
I am sure he will have a seat.

BTW, I am heading down to Cruces on Sunday night prior to the event. Several of us are showing up early to run some less challenging trails (maybe moderates or hards). Rumor has it that a Toyota Corp. Engineer/R+D guy may be coming along with a truck to see what real wheelin' is like. Let me know if you are interested.

Billster
