Might I remind you that airplane parts are not cheap.
Old Scout 02-06-2002, 11:16 AM I might be easer to go this way.

How about the shifter from a Cab-over tractor. Our old Freightliner hauler had a joystick shifter with two switches, on thumb, and one pointer.... Nice ergonomics on it also.
60seriesguy 02-06-2002, 11:35 AM I looked into it at one point, I always wanted the flip-up "fire the Sidewinder" switch on the knob for a locker, but after requesting a few aircraft parts catalogs, the cost was just beyond what was reasonable.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Pdaddy 02-06-2002, 12:18 PM I sell aviation parts, you do not want to buy anything aviation related, the pricing is so ridiculous you just gotta laugh, or cry I suppose it depends on how ya look at it, Matter a fact we sell regular ol tampons, they use them as a moister filter in some avionics and we charge nearly 5.00 ea for them, just because they are considered "air worthy"

LOL, I love that idea. There must be someone near an aircraft graveyard in AZ. What do they charge?
Monkeyboy 02-06-2002, 12:20 PM I'm kicking the idea around of spending the 360 bucks for a real military issue jet fighter flight helmet complete with mask and triple visor.
Pdaddy 02-06-2002, 12:20 PM I have a ton of a/c salvage yard 800#'s if you really want to find something, but be forwarned they dont care to assist non aviation requests very often
BillaVista 02-06-2002, 12:48 PM I wear a real military aviation helmet every day...it's really not very comfortable. Wish i had the resources of an f1 team - I bet their junk doesn't suck. Remember, all my kit was made by the lowest bidder! The NVG's are cool for night runs tho:flipoff2:
As for the guarded switches (name for the "cool fire the missile switch) - you can get them very reasonably from race car suppliers like:
Stock car Products
Chassis Shop
AFCO Racing
Intercomp racing
Longacre racing
Quickcar Racing -
See my page for links to their sites
Another source for a stick - check with the simulator builder types - there are whole yahoo and other communities out there.
ranger 02-06-2002, 03:08 PM Military DRMO's usually have auctions that you can sometimes find these. :skull:
I have a stick out of an FB-111 thats been in my junk box for 20 yrs...got it when I did a r&r on the jet when I was in...I always wanted to put it to good use but never thought of it as a shifter....now I can play with it and see if I can make a shifter out of it...darn thing is I have no missles to mount on my 4runner!..:D
paniolo 02-06-2002, 10:14 PM Had a friend that used the end to an ejection lever as a shift know...it wasn't attached in any way and really didn't function very well...but it looked cool :D He got it from a retired AF Col.
Soundman 02-07-2002, 10:23 PM I found one. Check it out
