Nice! I've been seriously considering doing that to my truck. Now you need to make the rest of the truck match!!

Nice! Good looking cage I have thought about doing this also. How much weight up top do you think you have lost?

NICE man!

I wanna do that to the Disco so bad. I've seen some other chop jobs, but the bobtail and the pickup bed don't do it for me like that does... excellent work.

Did you have to do anything but just hack away? Are there any complex geometry problems you ran into? like weird body roll/flex? Can you get a custom bikini top for that? so many questions...

way to go bro.

I hope we can get away with something like that eventually on the comp truck.

That looks excellent! Nice work! :smokin: do the windows still work? is there anything to keep them from flopping around at high speeds?

Very very nice!

Yeah, +1!

The windows are held in place by the window frames which extend down into the door and are bolted in place. Without the frames I'm guessing he's just ditched the windows, the frames and all the internal crap. He's probably saved 30+ pounds per door by doing it that way.

I could be wrong, but it looks like that's what he's done.

Keep it up!

I left the front windows in, and they seem to still work fine. I hope to have a bikini top soon.

The gas tank is temp. mounted in the back(back seat removed)Plans are to have a fuel cell that will fit behind the back seat..

Body flex doesn't seem to be a problem. There is a plate from the top of the door piller(between the front and rear door) that is welded to the cage(the doors where sticky before).

Im not sure how much weight was lost, but the rear frame section and glass where very heavy. The rear springs are way to stiff now. Im going to be swaping all the coils with 18'' 175-200lb coils. Should be flexy.

Noob here. Hi all, my name is Luke. Been lurking around for a while under different names, can never remember my passwords! I own a 1990 RRC that I got for 3 g's. Live down in the virgin islands. I love that man, been wantin to do it but I dont have any welding skills or good fab shops or equipment. Can you email me about what exactly you did? I'm not scared to chop the roof, just the frame and mounting up a cage. What size tires you running on those stock rims? Looks like you did some trimming. Thanks

I bet you could figure out a way to take the old roof, and have it so that it could mounted to the top of the cage. Sort of like a metal surrey top.

edit: Very nice by the way. Any chance you'd post up pics of the interior surfaces, specificly where the cage mounts etc.

same here, interested in how it all ties into the frame. It looks nice, very clean and professional, not some cobbed-up hack job. I see my RRC in a whole different light...
Well done, needs some vicious bumpers now.

Be sure to post some picts of your top. Also, you should cut into your rear doors for some bad ass tire clearance. Your truck is begging for some 36x12.50 swamper sx's :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I would also really like to see a bunch more pictures. Nice work BTW. Your vehicle is really coming along. Can't wait to see it with some real tires on that beast.

Nice work as the others have said, I just love the customary tail gate dent,
just about all the rangies that wheel here have them !

Amazingly enough, my tailgate is the straightest body part on my truck. I pride myself in this.

BTW, if you always keep it going forward you won't dent your tailgate backing up. :flipoff2:
