: Topic of the Week?
How would you guys like to have a topic of the week?
Obviously, this would be in addition to all the other drivel that goes on around here.
The topic would be posted on Monday morning. and be closed the next Monday, when the new topic was posted.
Please comment and feel free to suggest topics in your responses.
RCKRATZ 02-06-2002, 12:45 PM Sounds like a good idea, but who is going to come up with the topic?
You, me, everyone.
Suggest them, I'll put them on a list, and maybe we have a 2 day poll every week to pick one.
I don't know all the details yet, but they did something similar on the IH board a while back. Theirs was daily, which is too often in my mind.
I'm thinking things like:
SOA - pitfalls, gotchas, tweaks,
Tranny swaps
Transfer cases
Axles - why does everyone want 60s?
Goofy leaf suspensions - 1/4 and 3/4 eliptic
Engines
Brakes
stuff like that. It will be as specific or as generic as you guys suggest.
RCKRATZ 02-06-2002, 12:59 PM How about we make week 1 on Dana 30 vacuum disconnects:flipoff2:
JeeperJake 02-06-2002, 01:10 PM i think its a great idea. it would focus everyone's thoughts on one particular subject- very worthwhile in my opinion.

Mo You clown. :clown: :clown2: :cow:
Have another  and maybee a :blender: or 2.
H8monday 02-06-2002, 06:50 PM It might work!
We could give it a try!
66CJdean 02-06-2002, 07:45 PM I say what the hell why not. If anything it can help the newbies pad:flipoff2:
jason Boudreau 02-06-2002, 10:24 PM Sounds Good
1 subject and many opinions.

IndyCJ 02-07-2002, 05:46 AM Good idea Mo! I was thinking about this about a month ago, since I've been "lurking" on the binder board lately. :)
I'd just pick a topic though, and run with it. No need to have a "Poll" about what to talk about, just pick something. For awhile, it'll be pretty obvious. (SOA, D44's, etc, etc)
This also might be a good opportunity to make a "faq". Say, after a week, we have 200 posts on Waggy 44's, then after another week, SOA, etc, etc. Then, you "Moderators" could put a Sticky with.....
Everything you wanted to know about 44's ... go "here" <--link
Everything you wanted to know about SOA ... go "here" <-- link
Etc, etc
That way, we don't have to CONSTANTLY answer Newbie :flipoff2: questions :flipoff2: about :flipoff2: which :flipoff2: year :flipoff2: Waggy :flipoff2: axle :flipoff2: will :flipoff2: fit :flipoff2: in :flipoff2: my :flipoff2: YJ! :flipoff2:  :D
Old Scout 02-07-2002, 08:18 AM GEEEZZZZ!
You jeep guys steal are axles and are D300's and now are tech idea's! :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
jdjanda 02-07-2002, 08:57 AM At least give us Binder guys credit for coming up with the idea. Just like always the Binders set the pace for everyone else.
MO after you have a few topics started add a page with a link to each topic and a short description. This will avoid the need for the lazy people to use search.
See the IH section for the original Daily Topic :flipoff2:

Dan-H 02-07-2002, 10:35 AM I like the idea, and the idea of archiving the posts so they don't get pruned and having a sticky post at the top pointing to all the weekly discussions.
I wouldn't call it stealing the idea... Just following the Jeep tradition of using the best of what is available :flipoff2:
I thought it was a great idea at first. but I think the daily topic really doesn't allow enough time for discussion to follow its course. You'd have people discussion multiple daily topics. So I figured maybe a weekly one.
So, looks like we start on Monday.
jdjanda 02-07-2002, 10:52 AM First article should be "Caster, how to twist axles for use in a Heep"
I'm tired of the Heep crowd claiming the factory screwed up and forgot to put caster into the Scout axles, and there is nothing you can do about it, or if you point your pumpkin at the t-case then your Heep won't steer straight.

Should we start with how to fill the gas tank without spilling on the paint, or propper tension to get the soft top to quit flapping?:D :rasta:
That's a good one...
I was thinking more along the lines of
Do I really need 3" of lift to fit 32" tires on my Jeep??
Edit: You can make your softtop stop flapping?? :flipoff2:
Steve N 02-07-2002, 02:26 PM I already have the topic any reason we need to wait?
DAVID 02-07-2002, 02:41 PM DO IT IT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME.

No steve, not the will my ass look fat in 31s... say it isn't so :flipoff2:
So, lets get started. I need some good reading to keep me awake during the day ;)
PtrBilt 02-08-2002, 05:10 AM This would be great. Especially when you have to do a search then a large amount of info will be there for a specific topic.:)
And we're off!

Remember, we have maybe 30 active Scout users (Who actually post) we can hash out everything in a few hours.....now every Yuppie Jeep owner in the world is here talking about putting 31's on their Jeep..it takes a while for 6,000 people to post that you just need to get out the sawzall:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
mtndewmaniac 03-24-2002, 01:37 PM I like the weekly topic idea, would eliminate a few (bunch of newbie :flipoff2: idiotic querys. Yes, I am a newbie here to your bulletin, but I have enough experience in me as to know what to do, what to pack, yadda yadda:flipoff2: and the topic would get some other points of views that even veteran wheelers may find an interest in.

Maybe they will consider doing it pretty soon!
Fawkin Newbies:flipoff2:
Nice timely response... :flipoff2: We're on our 7th TOTW.
Here's (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=92170&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) the complete list.
Feel free to PM some suggestions for topics to me. I'm always open for new ideas that we can use to get good in depth discussions going.
Dan-H 03-24-2002, 02:17 PM Its still a good idea.
I think if the a post in the mission statement was edited weekly with a link to all the TOTWs, then there would be no excuse for asking a quetion covered in a TOTW topic, right?
tigger4x 03-24-2002, 02:32 PM :rolleyes:BOY! Do I feel like a fawking NEWBIE. :emb:
I had no idea what T O T W meant ... :laughing::emb3::laughing:
A great idea ... is there a page done up yet that will have a list of topics? I saw that MO had a link but I wasn't sure if there was going to be a permanent home for them like the TECH section.
mtndewmaniac 03-24-2002, 02:44 PM Would all newbies AND veteran screeners think to check the mission statement? Maybe the TOTW should have it's own link following the Mission statement. It would definitely get noticed there.:jeep:
....After I posted I realized the newbie mistake and went as homer simpson would put it, DOOOOH!
shiat happens

Look at the top of the page: TOTW is up there untill the end of the week, then a new one is posted.
mtndewmaniac 03-24-2002, 03:20 PM o.k. now I feel like the village idiot. I knew it was there, but I often take shortcuts to get directly to what I want to see with-out having to read all else.....
....my eyes must've been clouded/blindfolded/hazy/lazy and to forget such simple stuff....
flame me for the newbie query, in fact, I'll start it off:flipoff2: :D :flipoff2: I deserve it THIS TIME.:smokin:
thenodnarb 03-24-2002, 05:34 PM ok sorry if this was discussed already....
where do we post our suggestions on the topics?
I got one...4.0l swaps...seems like a lot of people are doing them...me for one...call it a bias opinion :)
snacksnack 03-24-2002, 05:57 PM yep you missed it pm it to mo

Most generally run a search on your topic first. To find your answers, click on the search button located at the top right of the page, you can type in "4.0L swaps" and Genie will POOF the answers to you. I came up with 5 results that pertain to, or are related to, swapping 4.0L engines. And I'm sure more stuff will show up if you type in "4.0L"or "swap".The 4.0L swap is typically done to tap into the advanced power and efficiency of the 4.0L over that of its predecessor, the 258, or even the 2.5L.

Keith,
I should have been more considerate of your feelings and realized that the "How to fill the tank without getting gas on your fancy paint job", would really hit home with you. I dont blame you, for lashing out,...I blame myself. It was just, so wrong!
Hahahahaha  :flipoff2:

That seems sooooo wrong coming from the guy, who got to watch me give him the perfect line, for clearing the gates at the first turn, then flop on his side 5 minutes later at the same spot. :rasta:
   :flipoff2:
xjpart2 03-25-2002, 09:43 AM it will make it much easier to search for stuff too!
im for it.

Jonathan M 03-25-2002, 10:45 AM Great Idea!!!!!!!!
I Love it......
All the good info in one thread, and soon there will be lots of topics to choose from......
OMFG!!!
Do you people not read???!!!???
We've determined that it is a good idea, and we've been doing it for several weeks now!!!
Look at the top of the Jeep Tech page for the current TOTW.
Or you can look at one of the earlier posts on this same thread and you'll find a link to the search that finds ALL of the TOTWs.
Jonathan M 03-25-2002, 11:03 AM I know the TOW's have been up for some time now. I've been reading them since they started. I was just complementing you on your idea. It was a good one and it makes the board even better.........
awjeep 03-25-2002, 03:53 PM I think its a cool idea.:flipoff2:

it'd be sweet if you could put up a link to find all the TOTW's. :D
schuss 03-26-2002, 05:56 AM I think there should be a good thread about what you consider "ultimate builds" for each model. YJ, XJ, CJ's of various vintage, as well as the good ol' FSJ's and ZJ's. The search is kind of spotty with this, and it would be nice to have a central repository for info on that type of stuff. You know, so you guys could further torment newbies and tell them to read those whole threads?
Mr.RatBastard 03-26-2002, 06:42 AM I think TOTW is a good idea to  anybody reading this wanting to comment Just check I am confused on the pole.
