Any idea on how to cut down on emissions? I just just my 40 inspected it it failed, BAD! the max was 3.88 and mine is putting out 5.22 I don't know what those numbers mean but they don't sound good. They said that it is because my gas/air mix is to strong, how do I fix this? Tank you.:smokin:

It is hard to be more specific without knowing more info, like what vehicle, what year, are the numbers HC or CO, and is it failing at idle or at speed.
The best I can do with what you gave is try rebuilding the carb and then adjust it properly as detailed in the Toyota manual.

1. Timing
2. Valve Adjust
3. Carburetor Idle Speed and Mix Adjust
4. Check Emission Devices
A. Is smog pump pumping?
B. Is EGR working?
C. All vacuum lines hooked up and not leaking
Do 'em in the order presented. To be more specific, we'd need your year and whether or not its a California car.... oh yeah, what did you do to it! Details man, details.
Oh yeah, welcome newbie :flipoff2:

thanx for the welcome:flipoff2:
the numbers are co (%), my HC is fine. I have a 75 fj-40 with a chevy small block 350 in it(78?). I know just about nothing about cars so that is all I can tell you. Does any of this help?

Lucky punk!
Up here in Anchorage, they won't allow anything not stamped w/ an executive number or that wasn't available as a factory option that year...AKA, no Chevy engines :-(
'Course, 25 miles north of where I live, you don't have to pass ANY IM tests...half the people here register their rigs out there :-P
