I just bougt a 74 whit disk brakes and when i took off the front wheel... the way this guy put disk on was he installed (vented) disk on the spindel, bolted a pice of angle iron on to the caliper then welded (shity weld) the angle iron onto the birf housing . has any one heard of this befoe look real simple if that is what infact what he did.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like a real bone-head mod. Suppose it could work, but I'd be worried about the crappy weld, to say nothing of lack of accurate parellelizm of disk to pad. Remember, ultimately, the welds on the caliper mounts will need to be able to stop the rotation of the wheels - and all the weight behind it!

Sounds scary to me.... Pictures?

I have a buddy who bought a truck FJ40 that has all vented Blazer disks front and rear. This is on his 72 FJ40.
The PO welded the heavy chev backing plates to the knuckle housing and the rear axel flanges...
So, 4 wheel disks that stop his 38 swampers in a big hurry with floating chev calipers, prop valve etc....
He is going to switch to mini fronts or cruzer disks and keep the rears. Keeps breaking those course spline stub shafts on the birfs.
He does have a BUILT Olds 455 in the truck.
Locked in the rear open front.
