I'm almost to the final stages of my 4.0L swap, and I'm in the process of looking for an electric fan. After doing a SEARCH, I've found that using a puller style fan with a shroud seems to be the way to go. I'd like to use the mechanical fan, but the 4.0L I bought is out of a '97 XJ with the offset fan. After buying a new YJ water pump and clutch fan, an electric fan will be the same price if not cheaper. My question is: which fan? Flex-a-lite makes one for YJ's, twin fans with a 2050cfm output. Anybody know if this will bolt onto my CJ-7 grill, and if so, is that enough output to keep things cool? Thanks for any help.

my XJ has two elec. fans factory. use some of them, or pull something out of a late model f-body. used works fine and saves ya some money. I think the YJ rad. is wider, but still may work.
Get the flex brand measurments and a ruler and lift your hood and lean over the fender and....:flipoff2:

I put a 97 xj in my 90yj. I replaced the water pump with a wranlger less that $40 at autozone. I used my stock clutch fan and just put nuts on the pulley the fan was on for the xj. I used the clutch on the xj with the fan from my YJ, yeah thats what I did. the dual fan set up from flexalite or whatever is really expensive. I like the reliability of a mechanical fan, but I have a small electric fan I am going to put on the front of my rad. with a simple switch to use on the trails while crawling.

I have seen many electric only fan setups overheat on the trail. I would stick to a stock type mechanical setup (no flex fans).

I put an electric fan in mine and its keeping mine cool. while I am not rockcrawling in death valley in august I think the work for moderate wheeling.
Those flex-a-lite double fan pull lots of air. I have a single 14 inch fan on mine and it will cool it down in no time flat. Its only rated about 2/3 of the double fans.

Rodney, did you use the original CJ fan shroud? If so, did everything line up with the 4.0L, or did you run a YJ shroud?

My bust, I just realized that you swapped into a YJ. Nevermind.
