I bought a FF 14 bolt off a 1 ton chevy van, to replace my semi-floater on my sub. I know perches and shock mounts need to move. What other problems may I encounter, like drive shaft, u-joints etc... Thanks :smokin:

I tried to search and after about a dozen topics I didnt see the answer to the question I was asking so I thought it would be okay to post it up. Plus when I ask about this to other 4x4ers I get all sorts of different answers that  me even more. So I was thinking that there might be some smarter people here that could actually help!

in his defense, try using van as a keyword in the search, it dont let u, so i guess he has a right to ask.
as far as doin it, yea the shocks and perches, the brakes stuff should crossover, ur driveshaft ~might~ be a little too long, but it should actually equal out, and as far as ujoints, it depends on what u have now...if yours has the normal 1350 in it, then your set.

I have a 6" lift w/ no shaft alterations and some say its definately going to be to short and some say it should equal out just right, this is what I was kinda of trying to find the answer to. I Just would like to get this done in one shot, I have to drive about 2 hours away to get this and I have a buddy there and we are going to do the install so I was hoping to plan ahead so I dont have to drive back in front wheel drive, you know what I mean. :bounce: Thanks for the help I do appreciate it.

well im that even if it is too long ot too short, it wont be very much, ud still prolly be able to drive it home, just not wheel it, but i kinda think itll be so minimal that u wont need any driveshaft alterations....the ff pinion is a little longer, but its also a little lower, so it should work out

Check out Billavista's tech article called the 14 Bolt Bible. It should halve WMS widths in it. I think the vans were wider if I am remembering correctly.

I put a 14FF in my Burb (was a 14SF). My existing driveshaft and u-joint fit perfectly. If anything, the pinion may have been as much as 1/8" shorter on the 14FF. No biggy... I had lots of extension left.

IIRC, the van 14FF is wider by 2-3".

Will the brake backing plates and ebrake cable switch right over? I've got a '91 10 bolt that I'm gonna swap out for a 14FF and I thought the brakes had some sort of issue.

no that stuff wont switch over, u might be able to rig the e brake cables, but the backing plates are a definite no go

Sub, I think you have it all covered, except the same minor ebrake issue that I have as well.

The extra width is the reason I was looking for a van rear should make the rear track as wide as the front.

Yeah I think the rear WMS will be about 70 in. wide. Just remember here in VA. you can't have a tire stick out more than 3 in unless you have "marker lights". :mad3: :mad3:
