OK, I've searched and can't find any applicable info. I need to change the pinion seals on the Dana 30 and AMC 20. I know, I know, but I don't have the cash to upgrade right now. If I'm right then the Dana 30 I can just remove the yoke change the seal and put the yoke back on, torque down the pinion nut. However, on the 20 can I do the same thing or do I need to do something else? Will the preload change or can I just tighten the nut?

If the Model 20 and Dana 30 uses shims you can just remove the yoke and replace the seal. Just tighten it back down to spec and use locktight on the nut.
If it uses a crush sleeve you can still just unbolt the yoke and replace the seal. A crush sleeve takes a lot of force before it begins "crushing." Just put the nut back on with locktight and use an 400lb. impact to get it tight. When the impact begins to bog down STOP.

The AMC 20 will work the same way. I Like to make a mark on the pinion and the nut when they are tight. So when I put it back on and it starts to get tight I can line the marks up. I usually do it by feel.
