: Opinions On New Drivetrain
RaisedRover91 12-02-2004, 12:03 PM I have a 91 RRC and stuff is going down hill quickly. My Transfer case is making really bad noises at highway speeds after letting off the gas.
Conclusion,
I want to put a new drivetrain in. Money is an issue but I have access to a large shop including machine tools needed for engine rebuilding. What engine-trans -t case combination will work best in this truck. I am open to any sugestions diesel, propane, petrol of any make or just rebuilding the stock rover drive train.
Please give me you opinions,
Tim
DieLucas! 12-02-2004, 12:06 PM Hamster wheel and rubber band make a good upgrade.
evilfij 12-02-2004, 12:21 PM replace T-case with LT230--done.
HandBuilt 12-02-2004, 12:47 PM If you're ambitious, I would go Small block chevy, NV4500 and LT230.
If you're not, go with what Fij said.
portalrover 12-02-2004, 01:45 PM Toyota 13BT Engine, Toyota Dyna 10 speed, FJ 80 transfercase, Marks adaptors 3:1 crawler box, Fj80 rear end, custom front end with fj80 rear third on FJ80 swivels and Cv's. That would be a good start.
bill.
Michael Rangie 12-02-2004, 02:14 PM Chev, ZF up specked to hp24, LT230, Toy diff centres in Rover housings, longfield chro-mo cv's.

The war is on:
Twin turboed P7100 6BT with NV4500, 1.003 LT230 with spool, 1410 front and rear flange type shafts to front and rear sewercapped 5.14 Eatons with cable difflocks, Mal Story rear steer swivels up front, 101 CVs (longfielded) and BCB brake conversion.
Then 4340 axles everywhere with 30 spline 14 bolt pattern and spiders.
1000 ft lbs torque, 450+ hp.

RaisedRover91 12-02-2004, 02:58 PM I like what i am hearing
My question is how much power will that lt-230 hold? Is it better to rebuild the rover trans or go with another make that will withstand more power?

Alot, mucho, gobbs.....whatever your favorite adjative is. The only weak point in the 230 is the center diff and that is fixable.

RaisedRover91 12-02-2004, 07:04 PM Now,
can i get that rover trans to hold the same power that the transfer case can handle or do i need to switch to another make of trans. If so where can I get a converson kit or how would I make the conversion parts myself.
red90rover 12-02-2004, 07:37 PM Transmission is fine for a fair bit more power than stock.
What you need to be concerned about are the axles. And, please, do not ask, but search on that topic......
