I've been reading some about propane and was wondering what are the benefits?
Is there a "read this before asking about propane thread"?

I am curious at this point and not looking to put one on my rig.
I just wanted to know what are the pros and cons.

Poor mans EFI.

Is there a power advantage?
From what I read there is no fuel mileage/cost advantage.

There is a power advantage if you build the motor for it. Propane loves compression. There is no power advantage if you put propane on a stock motor. Stock motor with 12:1 on propane will make more power than a stock motor with 8:1 on gasoline (that is a very generalized statement). If you put propane on an EFI motor, then well you have issues. :D

As scout said, its poor man's EFI. We all do it because we are either too cheap or too broke to go with an EFI swap- but still want something that will run upside down. I like the Hank Hill injection, but if i had the money i would have rather gone with EFI.

We almost never lose any power. If anything-we gain. As far as mileage. If you compare it to a carb in a hardcore rock rig, It gets better mileage based on the carbs unefficiency and fuel spillage into the venturis as well as onto the ground. You lose power if you don't put the right carburetion on the right motor. Too big and low end will suffer. too small and no high end. The right setup will do everything right. I used to gain power on my city conversions. There are a lot of myths about propane, most of which are not true. E.F.I. motors run awesome on propane. Propane is anywhere from 100 to 120 octane. You can take advantage of that in any motor with increased timing :grinpimp:
