: How are odd-lugged bolt patterns measured?

I was corrected on another board about how I measure bolt patterns, but I don't think I was wrong.

I am under the impression that the way to measure an odd numbered lug pattern, i.e 5X5.5", is to measure between the bolt centers on lugs farthest apart. I have been told that it is the diameter of the circle that the pattern would create if drawn.
Please let me know which is correct.
Thanks.

Diameter of the circle that the lugs are on.

There's no good way to measure it with a tape and your truck, but you can get close, measure from a lug to the open space between the two opposite lugs, and try to see where the imaginary circle would be.

Edit: All lug patterns are measured as the diameter of the circle that the lugs are on, but for even numbered lug patterns, that happens to be the center to center measurements of opposite lugs ;)

Are you using the new pi or the old? :flipoff2:

you can get close by measuring from the center of one lug to the farthest edge on nearest one to straight across.
