: Family Hauler Buildup Thread-Soft Core
wngrog 12-02-2004, 07:07 PM As I said, I picked up a 1979 FJ-40 for family hauling duties. I am going to do a mild buildup and as usual, I expect it all to happen over the next 2-3 months, in time to loan it to Shreg for the Roundup :D
Specs:
1979 FJ-40, 66,500 original miles
307, 2bbl, headers
H42, stock case
Open, 3.70's
31x10.50 Toyo Open Country's
2.5" shackles
wngrog 12-02-2004, 07:13 PM Round one: I took a trip to Coolcruisers today :D
Here is my first load of Booty........
HFS 8274 Bumper
HFS receiver
Seals
Shifter knobs
Hood pads
Flares
Visors
Just the little stuff ;)
wngrog 12-02-2004, 07:14 PM 3 hours later.......
wngrog 12-02-2004, 07:16 PM Ass shot, took out the 20+ gallon Con Fer gas tank. With the 23 gallons in the stock tank I don't EVER want to be in this thing long enough to burn 50 gallons
wngrog 12-02-2004, 07:22 PM The interior on this rig cleaned up just about perfect. This is the next jewel to be installed inside.......
wngrog 12-02-2004, 07:26 PM That is all for now. The lift and tires will be in next week and I will update accordingly :D
Big DW 12-02-2004, 07:27 PM i'm actually amazed you took the time to put all that stuff in your driveway just to take a picture of it....LOL!

Fawker, I thought you were moving to Texas
heavytlc 12-02-2004, 08:14 PM I need 3 of the heat& A/C units. Is that from CCOT? I like the 79, same as my orange truck. Are you keeping it green? I always have liked the stripe package on the 79 up 40's, but I have never seen one in green. Not that you would want the stripes, I would . I think the retro stuff is the coolest.
Just keep it away from the hardcore stuff, and do not lock it up. That is when my trucks go from nice to hammered.
wngrog 12-02-2004, 08:30 PM Just keep it away from the hardcore stuff, and do not lock it up. That is when my trucks go from nice to hammered.
Are you kidding? Lockers and Longs!
I am a firm believer that the better you equip the rig the nicer it will stay.
Slamming around at 30:1 is the fastest way to kill a rig in my opinion :D
BTW, I have a compressor from this setup I won't be using and a condensor, evaportor and condesor from an FJ-62 on ebay right now if you want to start hoarding some a/c parts. I will make you a sweet package deal...
TxCruzr 12-02-2004, 08:34 PM What are you going to do about the bezel, its like Mace's. How are you going to make fun of him now. :D
wngrog 12-02-2004, 08:35 PM What are you going to do about the bezel, its like Mace's. How are you going to make fun of him now. :D
Fact, that is a major problem.
Hanging with the likes of Mace and Helocat......damn.
Radd Cruisers 12-02-2004, 09:33 PM Coooooool, you did the weather strippiing and all in 3hrs???
Goood job, coming along well.
I need one of those clean near rust free rigs from Texas.

I know we are all different. I have a bad habit of rolling all my trucks. If I am not locked, and can not wheel it, it lives much longer. You may be easier on junk than I am, and Birfield, and Cruiser are the closest thing to family that I wheel with. I would hope you would be more cautious with wife and child, than I am with 2dogs.
I would be doing the same thing you are with the a/c. I do not have a cruiser that knows less than 350ci.
wngrog 12-03-2004, 04:24 AM You may be easier on junk than I am.
Wow, no one has ever said that to me before
Kaderabek 12-03-2004, 05:01 AM You don't seriously think your family is actually going anywhere with you in that, do you?! :shaking: Hell, they were hard pressed to go with you in the Suburban! :p Lame excuse for Nolen to build a mild 40 as he approaches middle age.... :D
TJK

Bastard.
Deep South Cruisers 12-03-2004, 05:28 AM Nice ride Nolen, is that a Vintage Air unit in that box???
I'm daily driving my 40 on 35's right now :D armstrong power steering ROCKS!
My 2 year old son has never been happier!
wngrog 12-03-2004, 05:34 AM I think it is a new CCOT unit, but I am not sure. It has the knobs on the unit, I think that makes it a CCOT.
I need to set the 307 up with a compressor and get some hoses and I have A/C.
I will wait on that expense. I need tires, Longs, lockers, lift and an Orion first :D
Kaderabek 12-03-2004, 05:35 AM I will wait on that expense. I need tires, Longs, lockers, lift and an Orion first :D

most would hardly call that "mild"? :p However, i expected it from you. :flipoff2:
of course, i just finished installing an LT1 after seeing Kate in TT. by the way, thanks again for your email advice on that.

35's are still stock, right?
wngrog 12-08-2004, 08:37 PM TTT with this.
Spent the afternoon doing some small stuff. I installed the TJ Flip and Fold seat that was in Kate in the back. Stock jump seat belts worked great on the kid seats.
wngrog 12-08-2004, 08:38 PM 2 x Aussie Locker landed today.
Going in some 4.11 3rds I have tomorrow.
4x4Poet 12-08-2004, 09:04 PM I really like my confer tank for long highway trips. Fill up every 500+ miles. But I can understand your not wanting a rear mounted tank under your kids' seat.;) Wise decision. Besides, with kids, you'll never get 100 miles without stoppping.

wngrog 12-09-2004, 09:01 AM Thanks Jimmy, I am screwing with the engine today, had a leaky therm. housing and some shitty belts and hoses. You know, the fun stuff
Aussie Locker this afternoon and then I tear out the old suspension for the lift next week ;)

I have some "Use it or Lose it" before the end and we are sticking around for the holidays. Figured I would take some while Julie was in NYC so I could actually get some Cruiser stuff done instead of yard stuff :D

wngrog 12-09-2004, 04:15 PM Keeping it ;)
Cold here in Texas today (75*)
wngrog 12-09-2004, 07:52 PM It has been a while since I have been in a Cruiser axle.........
I went ahead and snatched out the 3.70 and stuffed a 4.11 that I had from a Pig with the Aussie Locker.
wngrog 12-09-2004, 08:01 PM Awww Christ... I have that exact same tank that I told Deep South I'd sell it to him for $25 + shipping
Double ouch! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4509518620&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT)
That is like the time I gave Rock Taxi the beat-to-shit bezel and grill that I had and when he pulled the old TEXAS plate off the bezel it had TOYOTA stamped in it.
Bastard sold it on Ebay for $300. :p
4x4Poet 12-10-2004, 12:35 AM That was the bolt-thru-the-floor model aux tank? I hated those. IIRC, those had no sloping back underside to retain drop off angles. The rear of the tank hung 3"-5" down at the rear crossmember. I have the Confer tank that is held up by the skidplate bolted to the frame that slops upward towards the rear xmember. Not the best set-up, but better than the thru-the-floor model both in mounting and departure angle.
I said all that to say I can't believe the price you got.
Congrats. :grinpimp:

mantis 12-10-2004, 06:15 AM You don't want that rear heater, right? :D
Another D'oh! Last year I sent my entire rear heater to JJJ for free, and the next week one goes on eBay for $125. :shaking:
I guess this junk in my garage that is just taking up space is worth its weight in gold.
Box Rocket 12-10-2004, 09:07 AM Good Hell. This is a "soft-core" buildup and is gonna end up with similar beef to what I had in my 40 but will be much nicer with that pansie A/C etc. Nolen, you suck :flipoff2: I spend years building my 40 so that I can tackle "hard-core" trails which culminated on Upped Helldorado. I thought I'd "arrived" and now I find out that I was nothing but complete "soft-core" putsing around my a family hauler.
You truly are a jerk. :D
But seriously, its looking awesome! and I'm jealous. You're making me miss the Moneypit more than ever.
wngrog 12-10-2004, 10:59 AM But seriously, its looking awesome! and I'm jealous. You're making me miss the Moneypit more than ever.
I was always jealous of the family shots in the Money Pit. It was a huge motivator for me to go with a 40 instead of a wagon.
What are you going to do now? That mini is going to be tight :D
Box Rocket 12-10-2004, 12:20 PM What are you going to do now? That mini is going to be tight
Same thing you're doing. I've got the mini for the hard stuff that I can do on my own or with Michelle, and if we want to take the boys with us we'll take the 80. The 80 is going to see some tougher wheeling now too, just not as crazy as ths tuff I'll throw at the mini.
Keep posting pics! I wanna see how that thing comes together.
ScottFJ40 12-10-2004, 09:10 PM More pics please.
wngrog 12-11-2004, 02:26 AM Nothing new Scott. The lift, wheels and Tires are next and they are all "In Route"
I will try to get them installed next week.

HFS 4" SUA kit.....
wngrog 12-16-2004, 09:00 PM Picked these up too, but I found some better wheels tonight at the LSLC raffle....
wngrog 12-16-2004, 09:02 PM I spent this week's Cruiser dick-off time taking the Atlas out of Kate....
wngrog 12-16-2004, 09:04 PM I am swapping my 3.0 Atlas for a 3.8 Atlas from a friend.
What a mess
I found my lower 1310 ujoint had a crushed cap on my front driveshaft, so that is one major positive of this teardown.

wngrog 12-18-2004, 04:30 PM Did not have much time today, but I did get the front axle parts all together for the diff swap and the Longfiled upgrade.
I have Aisin hubs to replace the Warns and old school Longfields to stuff in there as well.
Man, setting up a front lunchbox locker (Aussie) is SO MUCH easier if you don't have to screw with the C-clips :D
It took 6 minutes from start to finish.
wngrog 12-18-2004, 04:32 PM The wheels came off of Lance Van Tuyle's first FJ-40 he ever purchased. He could not get them off fast enough :D
I think they have been sitting for eons. I tried to knock some of the funk off them today and I got 3/4 finished with one wheel in about an hour using power tools and Mothers polish.
These are Daytona Cal 500's......Starksy and Hutch specials ;)

You know, I looked at that when I was out there and the fact that it must use the 2.5" shackles to work right scared me away.
I should be able to clear the 35s fine with the cutouts and maybe just bumpstops in the front.
We'll see. Looks like after Christmas before I have time to install the lift.
KIRKSR 12-19-2004, 04:31 PM I'm looking forward to see how the HFS 4" lift looks and performs, as I had posted a thread on the CCOT 4" lift before . http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=294601
I like the look of your new "family '40"- my '74 is the same color, and in almost as good condition. I also want to install an A/C unit eventually, so I hope you include some good pics of that as well. I like the theme of your build-up: basically Landcruiser w/just the right amount of affordable:question: goodies.:) Don't forget to take some time away from the cruiser during the holidays and spend it with your family. They:angel:tend to grow up before you know it, and the cruiser will still be there. :D Merry Christmas! :D

Looking good Nolen. Glad to see it's coming along well. I too just picked up another 40...this one for my 15 year old. Will be an Alaskan winter project. It's a 74....wanted a newer one, but could not pass up the deal on this one. Got a ways to go yet to get it road worthy.
Thanks and keep on postin  :cool2:
peesalot 12-19-2004, 09:01 PM Nice , slot mags on the cruiser , try jasco metal etch with a quick wipe before the mothers , also try a product called Quatar , it is a liquid and it is best after the mothers , it kinda seasons the polished surface and seals it .
Radd Cruisers 12-19-2004, 10:37 PM Gotta love those old classics, one of my favourite old school rims.
ken79fj40 12-20-2004, 11:00 AM I love the old school wheels. I helped a buddy of mine "restore" some old american racing hurricane style wheels for his 72 bronco last summer. I think we probably spent about 6 hours a wheel polishing the raised section of each spoke by hand after bead blasting them. Lots of 1200 grit, and lots of mothers wheel polish.

JasonH 12-27-2004, 09:15 AM I like how the HFS appears to keep the rear wheel somewhat centered in the wheelwell. I've always hated how OME and others move the rear axle toward the front of the rig.
That's gonna look so sweet with those pimp wheels.
romer 12-27-2004, 09:17 AM Since you removed the Confer, you might want to movethe exhaust pipe. Treeroot did a bunch of experiments (Another guy with too much time) and found out the best placement is behind the passenger wheel angled down. If you go on long drives and don't smell anything in the cab, then you probably don't need to, but it looks like its in a place that would be easy to burn you when you (or your wife) get out.

I am going with my other aluminum wheels.

wngrog 12-27-2004, 05:38 PM why didnt you flip the rear springs and put TJ flaires on it ??? looks great
Flipping the rear springs with SUA lift springs really doe bad things to your rear pinion angle.
TJ flares look good with wider axles, but they dwarf tires with stock 55" rear axles unless you run spacers.
peesalot 12-27-2004, 06:25 PM you said dwarf.    :shaking:
farinvail 12-27-2004, 08:41 PM That tj seat looked like it went in well. I'm not having much luck finding a junkyard seat. Is there anything to know about the fit of a jeep rear seat? Or is it as simple as drill and bolt?
wngrog 12-28-2004, 04:28 AM Or is it as simple as drill and bolt?
4 holes. Just the front gets mounted and the rear floats until you tie it down with the seatbelts when a person is in it..
1/2 banana job.
Hit the WANTED section. Most "hardcore" heep guys ditch the rear seat.

Spring perches are easy to move to correct your pinion angle, and if you go with an fj60 rear axle you get the right width for the tj flares without spacers:)

Sure, but that is not the purpose of this rig. It will be plenty wide with the 10" wheels and 13.50" 35s.
Besides, the front axle is 57" and the FJ-60 rear is 60". Spacers? I know you guys all talk about IFS hubs, but all that is a major PITA. I would rather just run 1.5" spacers on all 4 corners for $200 and be done with it.
wngrog 12-28-2004, 05:12 AM great looking FJ-40 are you going with the same paint ?
ltr Pat
Absolutely.
wngrog 12-30-2004, 10:01 AM Happiness is a bed full of Krawlers :D

wngrog 12-30-2004, 10:03 AM And I have to replace the 3rd with a 4.11........
wngrog 12-30-2004, 10:05 AM Left the rotor and hub on the edge of the garbage can and went to the bathroom, heard a crash and went out and one of the hub studs had snapped off in the fall.
That was a 30 minute detour with the tap.......
wngrog 12-30-2004, 10:06 AM I am off to pull the 3.70 and stuff the 4.11.
I boogered up my driver's side tie rod end so I have to go on the hunt for one of those before I am finished
RustyNailJustin 12-30-2004, 11:35 AM Don't you work? :flipoff2: Seems like all you do is mess around in the garage all week long and show off all your cool shit :flipoff2: I was thinking you would have pictures of it with the 35" crawlers by now :)
Nolan;
You ain't doin' knuckles right if you don't have the factory sst to help you determine what shims go where. I have yet to take one apart that was done right previously. Lemme know if you want to borrow my sst.

Yer shittin me.. a fish scale, and put the shims in evenly.. what more is there?

I don't know why, but I saw that coming. You suck :flipoff2:
Yer shittin me.. a fish scale, and put the shims in evenly.. what more is there?
There's replacing inner axles seals every year because your knuckle isn't centered to the hole for the axleshaft. A shim stack with the same amount of shims on each side does not center the knuckle housing to the axleshaft hole.
I repacked/rebuilt plenty of axles without the sst, moving knuckles from minitrucks to cruiser housings, etc. Then I got the sst, and started setting things to spec when I took them apart. I have yet to find one that was right when it came to me. This setup has a great deal to do with how long your inner axle seal will last before you start puking gear lube out your knuckle housings...
YMMV, of course, and plenty if not most cruisers run around wrong for long periods of time...
LC Hamma 12-30-2004, 01:56 PM You ain't doin' knuckles right if you don't have the factory sst to help you determine what shims go where
Last night I tore apart my knuckles to replace with the Long superset :smokin: & was thinkin' I may as well do it right & use the correct tool to reset my knuckles instead of eyeballin' it everytime
So, I called SOR & they don't sell 'em. Neither does my local Toyota dealer - they said only the techs get those tools. OOOOOHHHHHH ain't they special. Where did you get your sst(s) & how much was it?

My Cruisers don't see high mileage and I have never had a problem doing it that way.

romer 12-30-2004, 05:20 PM Looks great Nolan. Those tires, gear ratio and the locker should make quite a capable rig.
RustyNailJustin 12-30-2004, 05:29 PM Very nice, looking little 40. The tires and wheels make it look great.
Cruiser Ken 12-30-2004, 05:34 PM what happened to the other wheels? Nice spare.

Rockzar 12-30-2004, 05:52 PM Nolen- thats bad ass! And- youre a bastard for rubbing it in our faces. :D
You've done more work and spent more moolah on that thing than I have been able to on mine in the last 5 years! You must either be independently wealthy or retired... All that spare time, cash, and cruisers makes me jealous! Pretty damn sweet for a "simple family hauler".
cheers-

Well, I sure can do that. I have not spent much at all considering what I have here.
CCOT stuff is part of my deal with Stephen, I help him develop HFS stuff and in turn, I get to run it on my rigs, so that is $0. Add it all up and it is about $1200
Tires, used $900 for 5 (need another rim, thanks Ken ;) )
Aussie lockers F/R - $450
Rims used - $100
A/C used Ebay - $300
TJ Flip and Fold - Free, Wet Olkoke cover $80
Long's-$110
TOTAL SPENT-$1940
Deduct-$350 for Long Range Tank
Deduct-$200 for jump seats
Deduct-$50 for bumper
Deduct-$200 for tires and wheels
Total out of pocket after initial purchase thus far: $1140
This rig is 100% financed from used parts sales from my last 2 parts rigs. I paid cash for the '40 after parting out a FJ-55 and FJ-62.
I am currently parting a FJ-60 that will hopefully pay for future mods.
Left to do:
Warn 8274 used - $500-600
Orion - $1300
Paint job - $1000
So, If you find a great deal on a stock truck, you can do what I have done here for $2500 with another $2000 or so on winch and gears.
YOu could cut costs if you have the skills by doing an SOA instead of a lift kit. You can do an SM420/465 instead of an Orion and save there as well.
I was looking at a Wagon, and I could not figure out how to do a 35" clad wagon for this kind of money. Besides, 40's are just cool :D
wngrog 12-30-2004, 07:40 PM what happened to the other wheels? Nice spare.

Nearly......
OTC is the vendor for those, though they've been backordered for just about ever. Mine makes a gaint circuitous route around the TornaodAlley club. I bought from an lcml'er who was tired of using it.

Whatever.

clutchee 12-31-2004, 09:10 AM I have to ask, what are you wheeling at LSLC Round Up???

Dan Dribble wanted a 3.0 and I wanted a 3.8 so we swapped. He works for FEDEX so he covered all the shipping.
I needed to pull it to rework my Lokar shifter and my front driveshaft was toast as well, so it worked out great for me.
Family Hauler is getting an Orion in Feb when I get my bonus check :D
Kate will actually be ready this weekend and we are headed up to Clayton on the 15th and 16th, not the 22nd.

wngrog 01-20-2005, 02:42 PM Finally, for the smartass that dinged me on my spare earlier in the thread, I just bit the bullet and bought a brand new wheel to match the others. It cost the same as all 4 of the others :(

70 MPH with no complaints.
I like :D

4x4Poet 01-20-2005, 10:18 PM Nolen, I'd like to see some close-ups of Bud's work. Looks good from the partial peek. I'd also like to know if he built it for stock 40 TREs for your rig. This thread's so long I've forgotten whether you have stock sized steering knuckle arms despite whatever TREs the rig had. Thanks.
4x4Poet 01-20-2005, 10:24 PM BTW, the 13.50" width tires seem perfect for an FJ40 Cruiser. 12.50s are just a tad too skinny for a 40 lifted 4-5 inches.:)

Bud can cut it either way. 19mm or the larger 21mm. I did not have any FJ-60 arms laying around so I had him cut the holes to 19mm.
As for seeing it close, not much to see. It is a seriously thick bar with threads in the end. Comes unpainted so I sprayed it up.......
wngrog 01-21-2005, 05:03 AM BTW, the 13.50" width tires seem perfect for an FJ40 Cruiser. 12.50s are just a tad too skinny for a 40 lifted 4-5 inches.:)
Yeah, I like the wide look too.....
I, of course, cheated some.....those are 3.75" BS wheels and in the picture there are 1.5" spacers on the front, none on the rear. I ordered some 1" spacers but the center hole was the small, chevy version so the are in the process of being exchanged.
As you know with 3.75" BS you need to run 1/4" spacers to clear the tie rod end. I hate the way it "feels" to have so little lug nut connecting to the threads, so Billet spacers seemed like a better idea.
I swiped a pair of 1.5" spacers from Kate for the day so I could drive it to the meeting. Front only since that would be the crappy end to have the wheel fall off :D

idahofj 02-17-2005, 10:23 AM Nolen, could you possibly take from height measurements for us?? I am dealing with a lift on my 40 that the PO put on and I have no idea what my actual lift height is. could you take a measurement to the bottom lip of the outside of the door handle, the hight of the bottom of your headlight, and the bottom on the handle on the rear ambulance door. Thanks if you can help out.
Jerry
wngrog 02-17-2005, 11:11 AM Funny you brought this back up, I am working on the rig today as it is.
Front under the fender, where it meets the Bezel-36.25"
Side under the door handle-45.5"
Under the ambulance door handle-52.25"
As for the latest, I spent the morning installing the CCOT leveling block in my system. It is like the OEM leveling block, you stick it in the top of the spring pack and it basically cinches down the high side and levels the truck out.
Problem with that is that the rear sits a little ass low with the leveler and 1.5" shackles all around.
I installed some 2.5" shackles in the rear and kept the 1.5" in the front. With the 1.5" spacers in the rear and the 1" in the front, the stance is level and wide.
It really drives well and corners great.
I am headed back out to see if I can figure out how I screwed up the Aisin hub install since my 4wd is not working
I am waiting on the Orion to get here from the MN Poser any day now. Should be all ready, sans paint, before the Roundup.
I can't wait to wheel it!
kling-on 02-17-2005, 12:38 PM I can't wait to wheel it!

KOWBOY 02-17-2005, 01:58 PM Funny you brought this back up ....
Ain't funny at all. :shaking:
I was hopin' this thread was dead. :(
The only thing worth a shit on this girlie truck is that armadilla sticker. If you paint over it, I promise I will show you no mercy. :mad3:

Sorry to rain on your parade Kowpoke :flipoff2:
Nolen, thanks for the measurements. I am running 35" BFG Mud Terrains with shakle reversal and unkown lift springs and extended shakles. Compairing your numbers to mine you are 2" taller all the way around. I like the looks of HFS springs but I think I'll miss the rancho 9000 adjustable shocks on it now. On the softest setting I really like the plush ride.
Totally of topic and please don't flatter yourself  , but we just returned from our doctors appointment with my 2 week old son, Nolan Patrick.

wngrog 02-17-2005, 08:28 PM Congrats on the new baby!
My tires are damn big for 35's.......guy in the club tonight had the same lift with 35" MTRs and was parked next to me and it seemed his rig was taller than mine.
KOWBOY 02-18-2005, 02:12 PM ....and it seemed his rig was taller than mine.
Somehow that seems perfectly in tune with nature. :D
Platform shoes anyone?? :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

When you were up close his did look bigger. When you got closer to the road and looked yours was a tad bit taller.
You do want to have the biggest truck out there, don't you! Don't they have a name for that?
4x4Poet 02-19-2005, 12:11 AM (Hey, watch this! I'm going to say something obvious, metaphorical, and esoteric all at once. Then I'll add a cleverly appropriate, sarcastic simile for effect. Shhhh. Here goes.....:D)

Gunmetalcruz 02-20-2005, 10:27 AM Nolen, couple questions.
It's been so long since I had anything that hasn't been rolled 12 times in a year and a half, I forget what's normal and what's not. So after the lifts in, does it still have the cruiser lean? Is that why your putting in the leveling block? and messing with rear shackle legth?
peesalot 02-20-2005, 10:49 AM Naw Tom , the cruiser was just kneeling so nolen could get in.
Gunmetalcruz 02-20-2005, 12:01 PM he does resemble that remark.
SHREG 02-20-2005, 02:08 PM Very nice... Gunna enjoy seein it up close next month!!

It is so great to have so many fucking comedians in this thread, I almost missed the little bit of tech here
95% of all Cruisers lean passenger about an inch. Mine was no different, before and after the lift, I measured.
I stuck the leveling block in and the rear was sitting a tad bit low, so I stuck some 1" longer shackles in and the truck is a tad ass high which is fine since I plan on loading it down when I use it.
YOu just need to see how it goes with your rig and the tires you pick. These Krawlers are bigger and wider than most 35s and it is tight with just 4" sua.

I am putting the Orion in next. I pulled the driveshafts this afternoon and drained the case. Waiting on the Orion to arrive from Cramer.
He is sending me a monster puller so I don't have to drop the transmission.......
Should be ready for you :D

Im stoaked!!
I was at Cramer's shop a couple weeks back and got a sneak peak at the new case....
Its cool to see a Non-Buggy Like Cruiser buildup for a change....
wngrog 02-20-2005, 04:31 PM Thanks Greg......it is a neat truck. I have a fuel regulator we can install if the carb does not work well at Katemcy. I have not tested it out yet. I just can't bring myself to take it off road with the stock gears. :shaking:
Carb: Nolen, if you're running a weber, put in the reg now, and set it for 3psi on road, 1 psi off road. If it's an aisin, you're cool. All this presumes a stock pump...
rugburn 02-21-2005, 05:29 AM Keep the hood black Henry C. style you pill pushing half pint!!!!!!!!!! :flipoff2:
call me today, I am on the road to The Badlands......... :p

I have an unknown 2 barrel on the V8. No idea how it will perform.

Gunmetalcruz 02-21-2005, 08:49 AM Nolen,do you have a extra qjet laying around? I swear my cruiser never ran stronger offroad. Mine was covered in cobwebs. Hit it with some breakclean and turned a few screws. No reg. nada. I can look around i think I still have one hidding somewere.

I was thinking about a QJet if this one does not work well.
texican 02-21-2005, 01:25 PM I was thinking about a QJet if this one does not work well.
This would require intake swap, way beyond your expertise......... :D
Easier would be an adapter to a Motorcraft 2 bbl like Kristie has.... :smokin:
Butch
wngrog 02-21-2005, 02:37 PM You are so funny Butch. There is a difference between expertise and "want-to". Sometimes it is just more cost effective to get a professional grease monkey like yourself to do the dirty work :D
That said, I got damn lucky and the 4 speed case popped off the family hauler with just a small pry bar and a little love with the come-a-long.
I am all set for the Orion to arrive this week!

Haven't had to do that yet now, have I? But yes, you would be where I took it if I fawked something up, but good.
Be nice, the guy I sold some thirds too is looking for a good shop......
KOWBOY 02-21-2005, 04:33 PM A ten-page thread??

If I get ya alone at the Roundup .... ya won't shit right for a week. :flipoff2:
wngrog 02-21-2005, 04:52 PM I see you have seen it
Bodean 02-21-2005, 07:17 PM You boys ain't rite!
wngrog 02-24-2005, 03:45 PM MNPoser...................nice :D I was expecting it to arrive painted Pink
wngrog 02-24-2005, 03:46 PM I think I can bench press this thing in by myself. It is not as heavy as my Atlas II and I have done it quite a few times and it does not have a monster input shaft to take a break on ;)
wngrog 02-24-2005, 03:48 PM Steve Cramer is the man. He installed studs in the rear of this thing for my crossmember and he provided studs to help align the transfer case on the tranny.
Excellent paint and finish. Thanks Steve! Pleasure doing business with you my man!

You forget, your Atlas plugs in, this you have to hold it and guide the input gear in place, and not tear the seal...........my money says you can't do it, but go ahead and try....I have a hose rigged to put the gear oil back into the trans when it starts moving into the t case......
Butch
Kaderabek 02-24-2005, 05:47 PM Shut up and throw the ball! :D

I think the studs that Poser threw in will really help protect the seal.

I'l dig that hose out and toss it in my box so you can get it at Katemcy :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Quazii 02-24-2005, 06:55 PM BETTER HURRY AND PUT THAT THING IN BEFORE THE DOG EATS IT!!

Ahhh, I do miss Hunter S. Thompson...
Now back to all of the tech...
wngrog 02-25-2005, 04:26 PM It's in! Thanks Rascal. Testing tomorrow :D
Are the studs for the bolts that go all the way through the tcase? A pic would be nice.. Looks very nice.
texican 02-25-2005, 04:43 PM The beauty of dowels Butch....

Poser to Wise One calls were about 3:1
I basically had it, just needed some guidance.
Rascal, the junk case I had actually had that spacer I lost, so it is all done.
I forgot to stake the main shaft nut, so I have to pop the cap off the rear and stake that in the a.m.
I am out of 90w, so I need to hit Orilleys first thinf for 5 gallons.
I can't wait to run this sucker around. It is bad ass.
BTW, if I did not have the :rainbow: "gull wing" headers that won't let me lower the engine in the rear, the dowels would have worked awesome.
As for pics of the dowels, I have already packed them up to send back to MNPoser. They are the long bolts with the heads cut off is all.
I think its funny how hard you fawkers try and rip Nolen for building a secondary rig that is cooler then what most of you have for a primary rig. :flipoff2:

Actually I'll rip Nolen for anything and everything he has done, is doing , or ever will do. Just seems like the right thing to do.
BTW Nolen .... if you ain't man enough to run them headers, I'll take 'em for a spare set for my junk. :D
