I have searched and what I have found hasn't been all that helpful, so what needs to be done in order to tune my quadrajet to run really well in off camber situations. I have a '79 K10 with a 350 if that helps. I've heard of running the q-jet backwards, but I haven't really heard why you would do that. The reason I ask is because this guy that used to work at the garage that i now work at had a q-jet on his jeep and he could literally run it on its side. Thats what i'd like mine to do if its possible. sorry for the "newbie" question, but i'm new to this so all the help I can get is greatfully welcomed.

just make sure your float lev. is right and it should run good !! not a whole lot of other stuff to do !!
As for why people run them backwards !! the Jets are in the front of the bowls !! and on steep climbs the fuel will run to the back of the bowls and uncover the jets and stall !! if you turn the thing around thay won't !!
thats why you make sure the float lev. is right !!
But then what do I know !! I'm a old man !!

Hmm. I didn't think it was that easy. I didn't think anything was that easy. Is there a special manifold that I need to run it backwards? I mean I'm new to this, but I know that a carb goes one way on a manifold and I figure I'd need one that is designed to run a carb backwords... right?

I don't know of anyone that makes them !
try a search and see what you come up with !!

If you will run your float a little low and use a fuel pressue regulator it will work fine. I ran this set up on my CJ for about 6 years before I went to EFI. The regulator will help more than anything . When you get to the trail just turn it down to 1 PSI and go for it. :smokin:

I ran mine at about 4-5 psi and it did fine !! it wouldn't let me run it much lower, with the higher RPMs we have to run in tellico (wet rocks and mud ) it wouldn't keep enough fuel in the bowl!!
the float lev. was a little tricky, if you get it two low the jets will cavatate and suck air ! at all the wrong time's :shaking:

Hosscat, I just ran across a guy's site who got an adapter to run the q-jet backwards, greg@emotoman.com, I'm going to turn mine around soon, I ran into Sean Murphy, who builds these q-jets for racers and he says a lot of people are running them backwards.

Thanks for all of the help. I'll check on that adapter. Now, where would the float adjustment be on the carb or even better where can i find a good diagram of how to adjust it? Thanks again.

You need to take the top of the carb off, Take the float out and bend the tabs !!( a little bit go's a long way !!) you can do this on the motor, you don't need to take it off !!be carefull putting the top back on !! so that you get the metering rods back in place ! (that can be a bitch) !!
to mount the quadrajet backwards ca't you just use a squarebore to spreadbore adaptor mounted backwards? thats how i'm gonna try it on my CJ
sorry for diggin up a dinosaur.... i just noticed it's from 04
