anybody know the length of a tf999? Im looking at swapping one into a CJ-5. Gotta keep an eye on the driveshaft.

Are all tf999 the same?

Search didn't reveal the length.

thanks,

its a cj5 i had the 999 in for a week and yanked it to go with the 727 due to motor (401) didnt actually measure the lenght of one to the other but it fit the same i think the 999 is supposed to be about 18 inches long

I appreciate the measurements but im curious if anybody can confirm this. I only question because I just measured the bellhousing + t176 tranny and it is 17.25 exactly. I can't see the automatic being 1.25 inches shorter and on top of that not requiring an adapter to the dana 300. If I am wrong I will be extremely excited for the swap

I saw 24 inches for the 727 on another post on POR.

Thanks,

is the 32rh longer do you know? I don't think it would be since isn't the only difference is that it is computer controlled.

The 32RH (TF999) used in TJ's is *not* computer controlled, except for the solenoid for the converter lockup. It's a hydraulic tranny.

I was meaning computer controlled like the 4l60 or 4l80 (can't remember which and to lazy to check) is just a computer controlled 700r4. I understand that an automatic is a hydraulic transmission

the 727 case is 16 inches long, the adapter to a new process Tcase ads about 5 inches.

so 21-22" give or take a bit.

The swap is pretty easy as far as bolting it all in. Its only 15/16" longer than the 3550, so thats generally not a problem. We have installed several here and they work great. As you probably know the AW4 is about as bulletproof as they come. When bolting it into a 1997-00 TJ you must get a OBDII Tranny out of a 97-01 XJ. The older trannies will not work. 01-02 TJs will not work with the tranny either. We build the harness and modify the 4wd adapter for $450.00. You need to send us the three plugs with about a foot of wire on them from the XJ donor vehicle (two for the tranny one for the computer) and the 4wd adapter off of the trans. We will send you back a mostly plug and play harness (you'll need to tap into a few wires) and the adapter that will clock your tcase correctly. If you are running an Atlas, this is not required. You'll need all the XJ stuff (tranny, TC, dipstick, cable, cooler lines, PRNDL, bolts, the plugs from the harness etc) You might also need to replace the input gear in the t-case (there is a short, medium and long version of the 23 spline) and you'll need to fab up a mount. We sell the mount, but you'll still need to weld an exhaust hanger on it. Hope this helps. Its definitely a worthwhile swap.

Thank You,

Hey redruM. I don't understand what you are trying to say here. You quoted me, and it's clear, that I'm talking about the TF999 (32RH) tranny used in TJ's. It's not an electronic controlled tranny. The AW4 from XJ's is, and that's what AEV is talking about.

Cheers,
Fred
