: Good grief...what have I done (and how do I get it home) ?

Succombed to insanity today.

Blew entire winch budget on rabid POS 79 F250 with 8' blade and full hydraulic gear.

It has a 351M, NP 435, D44 HD, D60 rear

What transfer case does it likely have? I think buddy said something about
a PTO?

The rear axle - seller claims "used to be duallie" (and with singles it is
dramaticaly narrower than the front RRD44) - any chance this is a rare 35
spliner, or at least with the "big bore" spindles?

Any idea what gears it might have?

Is the 351M the notorious POS, or is that the 351W?

What kind of power would this beast make in top shape?

I only went looking in hopes of a D60 front, but once there - I couldn;t
resist the allure of junk. He fired it up, move the blade back and forth,
and considering all the snow we've had - I was hooked. Didn't really look
at or care about much else. I was like an amateur :-) The rear axle looked
cool, and the plow gear has to be worth nearly what I paid.

I might plow with it, i might make a buggy, my wife might simply kill
me....who knows!

Last one - it will have to be dragged 100km home (by my buddies 3/4 ton
chevy and tow rope likely) - what position should I set tranny and T-case
for the flat drag home?

Cheers all

Bill

should be a 205 t case. just put the tranny in neutral you will have a hard time hurting that t case with a 60 mile flat tow.
the 351 m has shitty exhaust ports. not a bad truck motor, just not the best. the best part of a m motor is that it uses the same bell housing as a 429/460 so a big block up grade is a bolt up. you still need new motor mounts. why can't you drive it? it would be much better than a 60 mile tow. mike

no plates, no inspection, not road legal.

May have to do a funky think where I'm driving it, but attached to a long tow rope so it appears I'm being towed.

Jesus - this whole thing just gets more stupid by the minute. Be sure to look for me in this years Darwin awards

Kodak - I'l post a pic after I drag it home, and right before I get executed by my beloved. Won't do it justice - to understand it's appeal you have to hear the roar of the mighty 351M sans mufflers!

But having your buddy pull you with a ROPE is?

:rasta:

Borrow a trailer from someone or pony up the money to rent a trailer or just buy a tow bar (you can get them for around $50).

Someone mentioned doing a bigblock swap too. Check out L&L Products (http://www.landlproducts.com/) they have everything you need.

I don't know how much power your new junk makes but a Yahoo! search produced a fair amount of results for speed parts and this history of the 351M (http://www.projectbronco.com/History/history_of_the_ford_351m.htm) .

Granted there are far better ways, but 60 miles on a strap is nothing. I came home from Alamosa that way once (to Denver). One dumb-ass former friend of mine came home from Moab on one. That was a fun trip-not.:(

Doesnt Canada have trip permits? And man I hope this thing is something you needed more than a winch. I have learned the hard way that bringing home more junk just makes working on them less appealing every year. I am starting to understand why people pay to get things done. Sorry to be negative and good luck.
