It could be.. the ring and pinion are going to be smaller, along with the carrier being smaller... but I have yet to see any ring and pinions blow.. Ive heard of ONE on a D30 though. As far as Im concerned, you need to figure out what size tire/motor/tranny combo you plan on running, and go from there.. But Id venture to say a D44 will be plenty strong in the front for most applications.

It's probably as strong or stronger than a stock 60, but with the 60 you can upgrade to 35sp, and with the 44 you are at the limit.

and u can just get ctm's for the 60 and laugh. but i agree with scott, it depends on your driving style and motor and stuff! jiMMy

shafts maybe, but ring gear, knuckles, axles tubes, pumpkin, and spindles are still weaker.

I think it all lies in the setup..... For the guys that just want to run 36's the D44 is more than enough especially with the CTM's. even for me I am runningf 38.5's I built up my 44 with CTM's and warns.. I know alot of people with 38.5s that have never broken anything really with there stock D44's. Now I am a firm believer that the D44 with CTM's has the same strength that a D60 is going to give me with my setup 4.0L, NP435...blah blah blah. But if I was rocking a big ol V8 throwing around some nasty torque and if I loved to hammer it than I would have to say the D60 would be my choice also with the CTMs, But thats not case for alot of people, so who needs the weight and the big diff draggin, when you can get a nice light D44 with the fucking kick ass CTM joints.......
