Anybody else running these modified birfs by Bobby Jones? Toyota Super Axles (http://www.angelfire.com/ab6/axle/index.html) I just got a set today and it was a pleasure doing business with Bobby. He took time on the phone to tell me about them and when my payment arrived via ups, he handed the ready to go box to the driver.

They look beefy and the ring is very nicely done. With 38 swampers I am looking forward to wheeling and not listening for the famous "snap"!

I'm interested in how they hold up.

I wonder what would happen if I had him weld
the ring on a set of newfields.

Why????
The super birfs are around 130-180 a piece. It would cost $130 per newfield for Bobby to make these into the SB's Or you can buy the whole thing for $180. Sell the newfields for the price of a new SB... Supposedly he has 300 units in use right now with only one failure. What benefit would the Newfield give you?

I hadnt heard from you in awhile, I was wondering what you were up too.
My PS pump is still Fugged.:mad3: I am hoping to sneek out to the garage this weekend when all the inlaws show up:D

I have been working on the fj40 like crazy, finished the suspension and am hoping to get the steering rods and ends on this weekend.
Hopefully it will be warm this weekend so I can get out on the fj60 and try a couple of things on that pump. ANd get back to the rr bumper. I will call you this weekend, I have a carb question.

Later,
Ricko.

Zog,
Fix the steering first, go wheeling Sunday. Anything else would be a serious waste of time!

I don't know jack about carbs, haha. Want this weber on my bench? Or maybe this non-usa asin coming off Monday for TBI install? New TBI adapter prototype is in my hands, good bye floats and needles.

I'm finishing the new birf install tomorrow (just ate a big steak, gotta take a nap) and loading up for the Bads. I'll be in the garage and Kenny is coming over, call my cell.

And for all others, I'll post my thoughts after I return to the site of the last breakage! These guys with the D-60's I wheel with get a kick outta my pain, I'll keep quiet until we get back to the trailers! BTW I read the test write up before I called him. Now I gotta decide if I want to put the drive plates on now or wait until a moof an asin hub. Now to head over to the wanted section and post for some inner axles, since they are gonna be the weak link.

Too bad you can't see the schidt eatin grin on my face :D

Well I returned to the place of most destruction. With the wheel stops turned almost all the way in (per Bobby's suggestion). Locked all the time, no shifting out to back up, ran the whole length of Purgatory and more. These things are definately stronger than the CV Unlimited replacement mini truck birfs I lunched 2 weeks ago.

Initial opinion is these are everything I was told they are. Wish I would have heard of them sooner, $$$$$$ means cruiser parts. Thanks Bobby!

So I went out thsi past weekend and tried to break them, at one point towing a stock fj60 up a wet slimy hill appropriately named "Slider". Lots of wheel speed and some bouncing, no pops though! This was at Natural Bridge in KY, never needed the winch so I won't call it extreme.

So Sunday after leaving the Cruiser loaded on the trailer back at home, I decided to go to Badlands for like the 4th weekend in 5 weeks. The cool thing is that on Sundays a few select extremist meet after lunch and go to the real nasty stuff. I haven't graduated to the "destroy your tub for fun" level yet so I watch and take pics on some of this stuff. I know Woody has been back where I speak of and may comment.

Anyway no broken birfs, and I am sure I would have lost at least one of the truck birfs. I did break a winch cable, good that it was in the first 10' off the spool.

I am extermely happy with these Super Birfs! That's it the last post until I break something.

I'm in just remind me the week before. I hope to be able to keep up now! If I can't it's not the Cruiser's fault.

Hey Rhino,
It's not spoken for as of today, so you are first unrelated party on the list. I have a Cruiser buddy and spotter that has earned first dibs after hours of helping me out. As of today he has not expressed interest, but he's coming by tomorrow to peak at the fuel injection and hear it run.

I also pulled a non usa distributor (vacuum advance), points type with the octane adjuster on it, and a full Jacobs` mileage master system off as well. I replaced the ignition with a DUI (Billet HEI for 2F's) from Performance Distributors. It's all part of a bigger picture, but I can't honestly tell a difference with the HEI. I may sell the igntion system also.

Anyway, shoot me an offer via private mail, you can't insult me and we'll go from there. It is well used and at minimum needs a gasket kit, and will have to be rejetted for your rig and climate.
