: OK it contest time again.
Sundance 02-07-2002, 06:22 PM First of all this contest is NOT open to Aussies ( it would be too easy for them to win)
The prize: two Aussie 4x4 mags and one Aussie 4x4 trader posted to your door
The question: discribe what us Aussies call "a ute" and provide pictures of both holden and ford versions. ( I will be ruthless in my judgement :) )
go to it.
morgan 02-07-2002, 07:34 PM Easy peasy!
A ute is what we call a "pick-up", but with a flat bed that has very low raised sides, and usually lots of provision for tie-downs.
Here's a hoopdie holden ute:

Here's a ford ute:

And stuff,
Morgan
BJ On Roids 02-07-2002, 07:58 PM that ford is a style side

60seriesguy 02-07-2002, 08:11 PM Here's a GENUINE Aussie Toyota Land Cruiser 75 series "ute", taken at a 4x4 show in Perth a couple of years ago! Can I share the prize with Morgan???!
Land Crusher 02-07-2002, 08:11 PM ther is a company that takes the front wheel
drive cady and puts a flat bed behind the
driver does that count as a ute?
actualy the cady makes for a great car hauler.
wish I had a pic
Sundance 02-07-2002, 08:28 PM As I said I would be ruthless in judgement! :) No winners yet!
At the end of the contest I will explain why the entries don't pass.
jeepps 02-07-2002, 10:35 PM A Ute is an Australian utility vehicle. It is based off the platform of a station wagon. The word "Ute" is Australian for Pick-up Truck.

fcfred 02-07-2002, 10:58 PM a ute is an australian el camino-holden
or
ranchero-ford!!!!
but the true definition, or so I heard, is the
Ute- noun, A a motorized vehicle with a cab and bed design. Cab part is large enough for me and 2 mates. Bed part is large enough for quite enough "racks of eskie" or some serious rootin after a B&S ball. Also been known to have an extreme number of stickers, flags, whip antenae, one solid roo-bar, and a whole mess of trouble behind the wheel.
sorry I couldn't find any pics
:flipoff2:
I found some pics and added them below
I scrounged up a couple more pics. Don't know if they're what you're lookin for, but I think I like what I see parked next to the top one. :fj: :)
ute (noun) -yüte- "utility vehicle" A rugged Aussie sedan/truck hybrid. Not to be confused with the American "Ute", AKA: mom's grocery getter.

fcfred 02-08-2002, 06:17 PM how about a cold beer when I arrive in OZ? I'm working on a suped up cj-10 that I would love to ship over there some time, go wheelin, shag some sheep and get pissed at a b&s out in the bush before stumblin into the darkness with one of your younger sisters
:D
actually I would love to head down there and check it out. I have some good friends in canberra, adelaide, sydney, and some other towns. When is the Outback challenge? or some other good wheelin events?
BJ On Roids 02-10-2002, 03:54 PM dont bring your mum :flipoff2:
and BYO sheep, cause we dont do that stuff, but if a farmer sees you, he might get a bit jealous, new zealand style!!
leave the jeep, (if thats what a cj10 is) they dont work in Oz, something about being crap)
outback challenge is in may i beleive
checkout
www.twochefsracing.com
they are big on jungle and outback
we also have the tufftruck in september, thatll give ya the jollies
on the map i am north of those people in sydknee and canBRA in a small country town named BRISBANE we have lots of wheeling which would open your eyes, the difference is we also get the added thrill of hiding from the gentlemanly officers of the law, once we've been out for a play, so talk about adrenalin rush. plus we drive to and from our trails, and must lookout not to get busted on the commute either
if you're up this way ill shout you a beer
if my cruiser is driving ill take you for a play. (then you will owe me a beer)
if you can handle me teasing you as much as you guys give us crap!! then we'll be sweet!! :D :rasta: ;)
P.S. i dont have any sisters, so whatever you slept with probly wasnt human!! :flipoff2:
