: How much have you spent on your zuk so far?
mr skidmarks 12-08-2004, 08:28 AM If you have multiple zuk's then your favorite one. Since Ive only had mine for a few weeks I havent put much into it yet, but Ive done a spray in bedliner, seat covers, cut off the cat, door panels, new top, and a few basic maintenance items. A side from the money I paid for the zuk itself ive spent only about $600 on it, with future mods ill be putting at least another $2500 in before this april trip im taking to moab.
TruckTrader 12-08-2004, 09:03 AM If you do the work yourself and go with used parts you will save a lot of money. If you buy new parts and lift kits/tires and stuff brand new it will add up quick and your credit card will be smoking in no time.
Confessions of a zuki madman - In the past I've put $4g's into a zuk getting it lifted no problem, it's not hard to do if you think about it - 6.4 transfer case $1100, kong bucket $200, high steer $300, tires/wheels $1100, SPOA YJ lift kit $1000, wheel spacers $200, gears/lockers $800 plus cage, rocker protection, bumpers, etc. Amazing how quick it adds up isn't it?
My suggestion would be to do the work on your own so you can learn and then cruise the parts forum for stuff you need and get it half off the new price or more. There are guys on here that do everything themselves, including making parts, and they build them up really cheap. Read up on what you need here and it will save you big bucks. Good luck.
mr skidmarks 12-08-2004, 09:07 AM Im doing all the work myself but I dont have access to welding equipment so I'm sort of limited as to the things I can do myself. I'm working on a moderate budget so I cant blow money but I dont have to skimp on good parts. I thought about buying used, but there are certain things that I'm dont really want to buy used.

I understand your situation, back when I was doing my first lift I didn't have a welder I just had the local muffler shop weld on the perches. It was only $20 or so and well worth it. I know a place in NorCal that sells sidekick gears (5.12 & 4.62) that you could put in your sammi, $250 plus shipping for the pair. It's called Kia Suzuki Recycling and their number is 800-638-5773. Let me know what you need and I'll see if I can find it - I have lots of buddies into zuks.
hotwired 12-08-2004, 09:27 AM $450 for the Sammi
$ 70 for the HD spring perches
$ 50 extended brake lines
$125 used BF Muds (31x10.50)
$100 used lock-right for the front
$ 00 Fozzy locked rear
$ 25 used FJ60 steering box and ps pump
$820 grand total so far, and it runs the wood trails around me just fine. Happier than a pig in shit so far!! :flipoff2:
Azrckcrawler 12-08-2004, 11:52 AM Not sure I can still call mine a Zuk, I just have Samurai brake and clutch pedals left :D I should have about 15k into my new one when I am done (includes everything from the 9k Warn I bought to the gas for the welder), about 5.8k of that comes from parts being re-used from my old one and I sold about 8.1k in parts from the old rig and the parts truck I bought. This puts the out of pocket at a reasonable 3k. The little stuff is racking up the total, just spent over $100 yesterday in fittings for the low pressure side of my steering, all cheap steel JIC fittings, elbows and socketless hose.
Super J 12-08-2004, 11:55 AM Well, in CA, it's hard to find a decent one for cheap.
I bought mine a year ago for $1100
Tires/ wheels $1000 (w/ fullsize spare)
locker $200
Lift (spoa), shocks, and steering $700
so $3000 and it's still a POS.
I want to get a new top, gears, and an engine rebuild soon, so the money wasting continues.
davidbrady 12-08-2004, 12:00 PM just got my first zook a week ago
$300 for zook (rusted as hell, but solid power train, driveline and frame)
$50 for used red top so i could start it (fired up first try)
$125 for used 33" muds and 15x10 rims
$5 in sawzal blades to chop of rear end
$50 in perches
so 530 so far
still needs alot of work though, but it runs under it own power
:D
Tusker 12-08-2004, 12:30 PM Mine  I don't want to know. I did tell the wife it was around $1,000, but I might have mispalced a decimal point :D
I recently did one for a freind for about $3,000 (exlcude purchase price of vehicle). It had:
- Yota axles
- Cross-over steering
- Detroits f&r
- frame extension and s/r
- YJ's f&r
- long spline front drive shaft
- Rear CV shaft
- Bilstein 5100's
- 6:1 t-case w/ 2wd low
- 35 mtr's
- full roll cage
We made as much stuff as possible. That is about as cheap as we could get it. The problem with the sport is that if you get into it, you are never "done" with your rig and end up eating the elephant one bite at a time.................
zuknstien 12-08-2004, 12:44 PM $800 ---86 Suzuki samurai with mercedes engine and toy axles
$75 ----35" BFG MTs with 60% tread
$90 ----10" wheels
$350----4.16 transfercase gears, shifter seat and gaskets.
$60-----soft top
$40-----bucket seats
$40-----bumper
$20-----harbor f off road lights.
$20-----cone air filter

Islandzuki 12-08-2004, 01:36 PM with the money I spent on shipping alone I couldve buit another rig :shaking:

Then a WHOLE lot more!!
Orionn 12-10-2004, 07:44 AM I am running cheep right now....about $3500 for the current build. Not including the trip to Az to pick it up, the spares I have bought, or the upgrade Toy parts I bought for it and have not added yet (they're going into the buggy instead).
Thing is, I have also done next to nothing to it as far as repairs, except a fuel pump and altenator. Thats in 4 years of wheeling it from mild to Moab.
Overall, I think its one of the cheepest cars/trucks I have owned in almost 30 years. Cant complain about that. :D
