anyone know where to get some header for the amc version 401 or 360 that don't come out in a bad spot for a high pinion dana 60 up front? thanks Jesse

I never had good luck with headders. They always seemed to leak.

dont know of any headers that will fit, but I agree w/ the previous post, stick w/ manifolds if you can. I ran headman headers on them, they leaked everywhere they possibly could and would cause the rubber valve cover seal to melt and leak oil all over the place.

I got some wagoneer 360 manifolds, and then some 304 manifolds off a CJ. the 304 manifolds are great, they have a much better design than the 360 manifolds and I would recommend them over any header out there.

You could run fenderwell exit headers:D
after 2 sets of headaches I mean headers ,I went with manifolds and was very:)

Hey Jess, you're going to have to build them if you really want them. None of the off the shelf ones reall are worth a crap anyway. The collector positions aren't really off road friendly and or chassis friendly. Its a lot of work, but I enjoy building them. Kind of like metal sculpture therapy. Just you, some tube and the torch.

Go here to find out more info. I use Ed's part exclusively. Awesome quality. Be prepared to spend some coin though, and then when they are all welded up you better send them out for JetHot coating to preserse your labors.

I had the same problem with my headers leaking, until I took the advice of a race engine builder. He said to put some ultra copper on a stock steel gasket and use that. I have been running this for 6 mo now and no leaks.

On another note, has anyone tried the inserts for headers sold in Summit. They weld in and act as a muffler. They say they are street legal. Just wondering if this works or not.

Freind O mine has the inserts in funny car style headers on his street rod....They work pretty good until he gets down on it then it's pretty damn loud.

I have some old BlackJack in-Frame headers that work good. Here's a crappy pic, but you can see they dump behind the motormounts. Not even close to where the pumkin will be. I think Hooker makes these type now...

I switched from the 44 front to a HP9" and have no interference problems. What IS very tight, and maybe this is your whole question is the driveshaft clearance. I run the stock 1" front shaft in mine to clear the inside of the header. Also with the HP front, the DS gets pretty close to the starter and Bellhousing. Close - like touching, but works.

Also, with the added bulk of the '60, I'd be thinking about a remote oil filter. And make sure the pumpkin can't hit the oil pump housing.

yo jesse ,sup man this is shawn in nc , i ran headmans on my 360 amc and they were great what you have to do is invest in a good set of gaskets and silicon the black shit works well use the arp bolts for headers and you wont have a problem they worked great on my cj.

i have headmen's on my cj7 with a 401 and haven't had any problems after over a year. so i guess you get what you pay for. what is the deal with the "weld in" mufflers. Do they actually go into the header and not hang out at all? just wondering

have headmen’s HCT coated side pipes on my CJ and they suck soooo bad...i am going back to manifolds. i just drag the fuc#$ everywhere on the rocks. your best bet is to stay with the folds.

the headers are not a huge horsepower gain...well not enough to justify keeping them. IMO

I'd advise you to get a pair of factory iron manifolds. As for headers, I ordered some Hedmans for my CJ8(360), had them ceramic coated($160), and then the right side wouldn't fit! I should have tried them on the engine before getting them coated, but the 360 was at the machine shop. I asked Hedman to swap me a new right side for my "wrong" right side, but they would not help me out. I have been a Hedman customer since '78, but never again. To make a long story longer, I swapped the headers that came on the 360(Waggy) for some manifolds from a fella from POR.
