: Driveline flange compatibility

I'm ready to have my drivelines modified to fit new 2F/4spd in my 66 FJ40. The current flanges will work fine since I kept my original tc. Question is, when I eventually replace my axels with 78 axels, will it simply be a matter of replacing the driveline flanges with updated flanges? Will they fit on my original 66 drivelines that I'm going to spend some serious bucks on?(~$200) Would another option be to swap the pinion flanges from my old axels to the newer ones? Any better way to skin this cat? Thanks!!

congrats on 100 :grinpimp:

your 66 flange bolt pattern is smaller than the 78 .......in 7/78 they went to a fine spline pinion but the bolt pattern is the same for all 78's....also if you change ring and pinions it will become fine spline as well

if it were me i would leave the larger bolt pattern on when you swap axles and benefit from the LARGER U JOINTS that come with them :D

agood driveline shop will mod you ds pretty cheaply

good luck

fyi....AA landcruiser engine conversion manual has all lc and mini bolt patterns listed by year and dimension :D

Kurt, That does help, as I always wonder what I would have to do to my DS to add an H55 and split case out of an '87 60 to my '78 40 w/ a 09/77 prod date.

Still wanna do that later model rear end with e-brake on the rear drums we were talking 'bout. But then I just pull my 3rd out of my old rear, so no change.

Thanks!
