Cajun 12-12-2004, 07:23 PM Attempted to finish assembly on my motor, was denied because: The wrong oil pump pickup was sent with my long block, the high volume pump wouldn't clear the pan, my HEI distributor was trying to occupy the same space as my thermostat housing, and I didn't have a non-counterweight crankshaft spacer.
So, I went to my buddy's place and machined the counterweight off the crank spacer I had, drank some beer, beat my oil pan into submission so it cleared the pump, drank some more beer, clearanced my thermostat housing (think shaving and plating a diff) so that it and the distributor are no longer attempting to violate the laws of physics, drank some more beer, then found out that it'll be next week before I can get the right pickup tube. One of these days I'll get this damned motor together for good.
Oh, my hydro steering system from POS (Station) showed up, so I drank some beer and stared at my new bling to figured out how I was going to mount it. :D

Binder 12-12-2004, 07:51 PM I built this for the new rig. Dana 60 HD, detroit locker, 35 spline chromo dutchman axles, 5.13 R&P, 65" flange to flange, D 80 spindles and wheel hubs, 3/4 ton chev brakes, 1410 U bolt yoke and a fancy thick cover. The wheel hubs were machined quite a bit to accept the new rotors and the spindles were machined quite a bit to make them fit. On the spindles the D 80 is 3-7/8" OD with 5/8" wall tube. The 60 is 3-1/8" OD with 3/8" wall tube. I had the spindles machined to accept the 3-1/8" 60 tube with a tight fit. It's overlaped 2-1/2" and welded with 6 passes. Alignment is good and it's nice and solid. Still need to mount the callipers when I get the brackets and all the tabs for the links and shocks. I think it probably saved me about 300 lbs or so, I'll try to get it weighed some time this week. :grinpimp:
DJForrestA 12-12-2004, 07:59 PM Dj'd a few xmas parties. Lots of freakiness involved there. Scored a Dana 70 rear with 4.88s and a locker for free and got a chunk of money to take my scout to the next level. Found a guy with a CJ 10 airport tug who want to ditch the SD 33 and a pair of trannys and tcases if anyone is interested. Snoopy how much for a set of hummer wheels with beadlocks?
Mechanos 12-12-2004, 08:01 PM Only thing IH I did this weeked was to load up the 196 I've been tripping over for 3 years now and take it out to give it to my brother. Aaahhhh.... more garage floor space liberated!!
Eagle-Mark 12-12-2004, 08:36 PM Friends from the Just Internationals Wenachee chapter came to visit and brought me another Scout II.
Went to our club Christmas party and won a D&C Back to Basic bumper. :D

Casey, did you get that local?
I did yard work. And that sucks.
ihojeff 12-13-2004, 06:56 AM I set up a pair of Scout 44's on Saturday and cleaned and prepped more parts for an engine job that I'm in the middle of. Sunday played with the kids and relaxed.

Ben Segrest 12-13-2004, 02:23 PM Worked on a buddy's Scout:
Mounted and installed a new set of tires
Did some body work
Prepped some of the crossmembers so as to be able to weld in the new bed
YellowIH 12-14-2004, 06:39 AM I cranked and turned my Scout facing the other way in the driveway so the long rear overhang now overhangs the yard and not parking space. I slipped a car cover over to keep her warm this winter btw trips. I ordered a cover from Summit that will fit a fullsize blazer. Cover the rear tire carrier and front winch bumber great as well as half the 37's.
Still need to do the ford solenoid swap since I have all the junk to do it.....just laying on the work bench. These short days of daylight are killers....
