thinking about next weekend, hows the snow?

Snow levels are pretty high right now. You probably don't hit the white stuff until you get up near North-South Road. There was A LOT of traffic up there last week end, so I'd suspect that it's all pretty well packed. Not the best conditions I've seen up there, but if you don't mind going way up past Silver Fork, you could probably find some decent snow.

i was up there last friday and yesterday. about 18 miles up from 50 (there is a sign that says 18 miles to 50 and 18 miles to 88) it was getting pretty good. the side roads were a blast. i went down one road with no tracks yet and eventualy buried my 38's. the snow was at least that deep. i had a blast and can't wait to get back up there. hope we get some more weather soon. if it doesn't snow by then and the weather stays warm there might not be much snow next weekend. just from friday to sunday the snow line was much higher.

i knew i should have gon eup last weekend to check it out. but its been pretty warm in sac recently. so those conditions sound right. im waiting till after the new year and a couple more snow flurries.

when I went up the weekend before thanksgiving it wasnt that bad once you got off the road, but it did take 15 miles past the second dam before we found any decent white stuff.

ehh its looking like this weekend is no good, but I do show a storm rolling in..................

last week a subaru outback drove the whole road and went to kirkwood on hwy88 to ski.

oh and ill be there sun with my roomate in his black 91 w/flatbed

We went up right after the previous storm day after and it was great but I imagine now it will be a lot less snow.

this was fun. halling ass in untouched snow. it kept getting deeper and deeper then i found a very soft spot and came to a complete stop. it stalled my winch out on a single line and did not budge the rig.

Ok, Dec. 19th.. Snow sucked!!! All icey and slush even all the way to 88 it was terrible.

my pics were taken on sunday dec 12. the pics were prob about 10-12 miles from 88. i can't rember all the road names off morman imigrant trail but we started seeing some snow on the ground about where there is a log fence on the south side of the road, maby 5 miles from sly park road.

i was up on friday the 10th of dec also and there was quite a bit more snow then. i guessed the snow conditions would be about what you experienced, todd w. i'm looking foreward to another snow storm.

12-19 we went down some side road and were stuck there for 3 hours.. it was fun. my roomates gonna buy himself a winch after this

elevation goes up quick from sly park road. it wouldn't suprise me if it is snowing just 5 miles up morman imigrant road. yeee haaaa!! i'm ready.

It's pouring rain in Pollock right now. www.wunderground.com is the best place to look for conditions. Enter zip 95726, scroll down and find local weather stations. The one that says sly park/starkes grade is the one you want. It even has a web cam. It says it expects 1' to 3' of snow from thursdays storm.

Actully its the neck, specifically 5th & 6th vertibrae. I have Degenritive Disk Disease. I then had an MRI which is showing the 5th and 6th vert. to be Herniateed.............................bad stuff.

Its like the problem Camo had but at a smaller level.

Still going to have to have a neck fusion done at some point...............putting it off until next year.

Vicodin is my crutch :(

Went up today. Never stopped snowing. CHP had 50 closed at sly park.

Snow was deep and everywhere. Nice fluffy 4'-5' drifts. We got as far as Light Canyon. Thats where the snow got another 2' deeper. After that only snowmobile tracks.

Suppose to snow through Sunday so monday will be awsome!

i just got a call from a friend that lives off sly park road by hwy 50. he said he has 4" there from last night. we are heading up to iron mtn rd now :D :D :D . i'm not bringing a camera but i will report back on the conditions.

just got back from iron mtn rd. the conditions were great!!!! lots of good powder to blast through. in 2.28 low, 3rd gear 5000 rpm and blast into some 2-3 foot deep powder. i'd loose all visability and my buddy behind me said he couldn't see me either. he said the snow was blowing about 5 feet over the top of my rig when i was doing this! went down some side roads and the snow was easily more than 4 feet deep prob more than 5 feet. it started snowing as i was leaving and it was raining HARD on the way down to folsom. it should be great again on monday.

the only bad part of the trip was it took over two hours to get from the 1 mile to sly park rd sign on hwy 50 to sly park rd. hwy 50 was shut down for avalanch control. the off ramp at sly park was a mad house, people pointing every wich direction, blocking the people that wanted to go south on sly park road.

sweet report. im pumped. gotts due teh basics to the 40 tomorrow and sunday and ill be all set. i jus thop eit isnt raining on teh way up or the night before or all my crap will be soaked.

well i am still in, I just got down hooking the windshield wiper motor to a toggle switch in the rain.

I am in, with 2 other rigs.

We went up yesterday and it was a cluster fuck!!! We made it to the "S" turns past Piliken and made new tracks but the snow kinda sucked(I kept sinking if I wasn't just crawlin it. Still had a blast though!!!!

hey i was up there on sunday.. 01-02-05

there was 2 ft of packed snow on the road just past the dam.. and about 4 ft on the forest ..

when I was up there alot of rigs didnt make it past the the turn off to silver fork ..
everyone I saw was getting stuck.. there was a white ford truck and he was buried in the road.. alot of others were trying to get him out.. I yanked 2 rigs out my self..
but had a blast.. till on the way out..
had a toy truck going in without a front driveline.. spinning the tires and sliding all over the road..

that jerk almost hit me .. and he flung snow and ice in my drivers side window and got me in the face while I moved to the side of the road to let him go by..

his truck almost got my jeep.. I had to jump forward real fast to get away from him.. and scared the crap out of his friend that was behind him..
I could have handled the 2wd thing.. but dont be a jerk and put the lead foot to the floor while you are passing a stationary rig being polite to you ..

hope you broke the truck and didnt get out..

What did the Toy look like? I was there on Sunday also and nobody made it past the turn to Silver Fork when I was there. We made the furthest track just past Piliken. Silver Fork is another 5 or 6 miles.
