alright, i have a 5.0efi Ford engine going to a C4 to a D20 in a 72 Bronco. I'm thinking about switching to some sort of manual gearbox, NV4500 possibly, and an Atlas II. I have never done any serious transmission work though, it is about the only area I haven't delved into. So, my question is...are there any good books you can recommend to famialarize me with what I'll be up against? Is this going to be terribly problematic? What are the major problems I'm going to face? Most important is the book though, i'd love to find a really good one. Oh yeah, anyone in Colorado wanna help me tackle something like this? I'll provide the    and any help i can on any other projects. This is closer to a dream than a reality depending on how tough a project it's going to be and what parts I can find at what prices. Sorry for the newbie question, help me out with some info.

Thanks,
Steve

P.S. I'm posting this in General 4x4 too, sorry if you see it twice.

I've also thought about adding some sort of crawler box. i know KluneV sells modified Marlin boxes to mate with the D20. This would take my crawl ratio down to 140:1 or so. Has anyone gone this route? It's really expensive, over 2 grand. I've never driven an automatic with such low gearing, what's it like? I would hate to go that route and when all is done still wish I had done a 5-speed.

I'm also planning to do a NV4500 and Atlas II set up. There is a write up or tech article in one of the major 4 wheel - off road magazines. Still looking for the publisher.

Good luck. If I find it, will let you know. Do the same.

Thanks.

I thought u had to sell everything????? are ur parents gonna fit the bill................

advance sells some parts for that conversion but i'm not too fimilar with it...... you can also stay ford and put a ZF 5spd in there they will bolt up to your motor if you get one that came out of a late 80's 250 or 350 with a 5.8L

Take a look at the date on the first post. Somebody dug it out of the boneyard.

If you got the money it's an easy swap. You might have rear driveline issues though cause the NV and Atlas are longer and the adapters will take up more room.

All you have to do is call Advance, tell them what engine and transmisson your going to install. Order the Atlas and bolt it all in.
