I want to run YJ spring in just the rear for now, using the TT kit.

Ignoring the # leaf packs and all that, do I need to run springs from the front of a wrangler in the rear, or do YJ fronts work in the front of a sammy, and rear YJ springs work in the rear of a sammy?

I've been working on replacing my screwed up rear YJ's...

If you get a complete set, you'll see some differences between them. The set for the rear should have 3 clamps per spring- 2 on one side of the center pin, and one on the other side. This is to help counter axle wrap of the spring. I'm currently working on figuring out how to combine the 4 leaf pack (which has 2 clamps per spring) with a 5 leaf pack (which has 3 clamps per spring).

TDavis,

Here's quote from Geoff Beasley on making hybrid 6 leaf packs:

----------------
I assembled a custom 6-leaf pack of YJ springs for the rear of my Zuk, using all 4 leaves from a 4-pack and adding the 2nd-longest and 2nd-shortest leaves from a 5-pack. Not only did it provide some needed additional spring rate, but it also stiffened up the rear springs just enough to eliminate about 85% of the previous spring wrap. This completely cured my spring wrap induced problems, saved me a bunch of money and complexity, yet still saves my axles and diff from some "shock loading" that could lead to breakage, by allowing the axle a little bit of wrap on the springs. Those shock loads (caused by such circumstances as a fast-spinning tire hooking on a rock) are absorbed by the springs, rather than being transferred directly to the axles, diff, and remainder of the driveline as with a traction bar.

My opinion: A lot of spring wrap is bad. A little bit of spring wrap is good.
----------------

I used Geoff's receipe for making my rear packs. IIRC, takes a little trimming on the length of one of the leaves to fit, but it works and you get all 3 spring clamps. No problems with it so far, but it has only been abused a couple times.

So is there a difference in length between the front and rear spring? Do I want a front or rear wrangler spring in the rear of my sammy?

They are the same length. Use the 6leaf recipe posted above, and be sure to re-use the spring clamps.
