what is the best way to drain the dana 50? i can't find a drain plug on mine. also, the chilton says there is a limited slip additive, which i will use in the rear, but i don't know if my front is a limited slip...does anybody know? also, is there only one type of additive? thanks for the help.

Ohhh, you got the TTB one. Pull all the bolts from the front of the housing and crack the seal to the back part of the housing, it'll all run out. Your axleshafts will hold the housing in. Never seen a LS D50 front from the factory, but I've heard it can be ordered that way. Only way to know for sure is to look.

Easier is to just use a suction pump to draw the fluid out the fill hole. You won't have to worry about it leaking afterward because you broke the silicone seal either.
Lock the hubs and drive it at highway speed for a few miles (T-case in 2WD) to stir up & suspend any crap in the oil so it will be sucked out with it also.

You can drive it in 4hi then, just avoid sharp turns.
Are there any tags on the diff?
I don't know if they put tags on TTB or not

no, no tags. i drained the rear today, and filling it back up with oil is a huge ration of shit. haven't gotten around to doing the front yet.

Alot of the suction pumps out there are crap.
Used an recent suction pump, that didnt work, and then tried a Zee Line, that didnt work either.
Hopefully you can find a good suction pump somewhere.

Sure you can.
Put it in 4x4, drive a few feet in a straight line, then return it to 2WD, but then DO NOT back up. The auto hubs will remain locked as you continue forward.
TTB axles have a white/yellow tag on the back of the passengerside that will have the BOM, etc. (sometimes along with a big "44" or "50" on the bottom of the diff housing, depending on model)
The pump I use is one of those cheap $6 Sta-Lube ones you buy at Pep Boys, Autozone, Schucks/Kragen/Checker/depend-on-where-you-live-named-autoparts-store-chain, etc. A piece of 3/8" fuel hose can fit on the end of it to get it to the bottom of the diff. Has always worked fine for me.
