: Warn 8274
Cheepin 02-09-2002, 05:55 PM What are these worth?I know a guy who has one for sale he wants $300 for it.He rolled his scout and wants to sell parts off it.Is this winch worth it or should I offer less.It does work fine. Also what is it rated at will it work for a Blazer.Blazin:D
road1will 02-09-2002, 06:08 PM what kinda shape is it in? they are kick ass winches- 8000lbs rating, very fast line speed, and look ultra-cool. i would buy one for $300. :D
shaggyk5 02-09-2002, 06:10 PM yes yes and a resounding YES!! These winches sell for close to 1100 bucks new. the capacity is 8000 lbs, a little light for a blazer, but nothing a snatch block cant fix!! They are also very FAST. No load line speed is like 72 feet per minute. (close to 10 feet faster than the next if i remember correctly. Get it. Get it now.
High5 02-09-2002, 06:13 PM if it works it is well worth it. i bought a used m8274 for $300 and it is great! i love 8274's personally. i have a ramsey re8000 sitting in the garage floor that i used to run and it was SLLLOOWWWWWW!!! did i mention it was slow. the 8274 is alot faster. i say get it. have you priced a new one? :D
pcorssmit 02-09-2002, 06:17 PM IMO they work better than other 8000 winches. The only thing I'd trade mine for would be a 12,000. Buy it and get a snatch block. If you don't like it, you should be able to get your money out of it no problem. My truck weighs 6k.

Here's another big yes, sounds like a deal. You don't say what kind of shape its in (other than it runs) but even if its old and rusty it's probably worth it. Warn sells their parts for reasonable prices and there's lots of help available on various BBs and tech sites for how to refurb it. Only disadvantage is its kind of high profile so it can cause some air flow problems on rigs that are prone to overheating.
v6toy4x 02-09-2002, 07:30 PM if you use your winch much you will find the speed of the 8274 is
PRICELESS!!!!
Nobody 02-09-2002, 09:07 PM I heard something about the older models being better than the new ones??? I can't remember the reason......is this true?

Actually I would say the opposite. Bigger motor now = smokin fast. :D
deleon87 02-09-2002, 10:35 PM does anyone know how much it weighs over a 9000 winch?

Much heavier - 8274 is about 110 lbs while the 9000 is like 80 lbs.

I have a spec page on most of the popular winches out right now
It lists all the weights as well as line speed, amps used (use large grain of salt on these)
Winch page (http://home.gci.net/~bronco78/winch/winches.htm)
BTW, M8000 74#
8274 110#
Jtisdale 02-10-2002, 09:35 AM Get it, you can also run rope on it without heat build up issues.

....because, unlike other Warn winches, the drum is hollow instead of containing the motor. That's also why the 8274 looks so much bigger. The new synthetic rope cable loses strength when it gets too hot. (In case you wondered why)
Jtisdale 02-10-2002, 02:49 PM There was a good thread on the rope earlier if interested.
