: Will reverse engineering work?
kerry1.6-toyota 02-09-2002, 06:23 PM This past week the phone and email have been busy with questions and requests for the RingeR, which is great .........but a few people have been discussing with me that they plan on doing a diesel conversion at some point. I understand this approach from the standpoint of I myself am in the collecting of parts stage of fitting a 2.4L Toy diesel into a Sammy with toy running gear.
Anyway back to the question........I've on a few occasions told the perspective RingeR buyer that they might be better off waiting on purchasing the product until they decide for sure on a diesel conversion.........in other words don't be spending your money on the RingeR and then find that it is not going to fit between a VW diesel motor down the road. Also I keep getting the question,"Will the RingeR" fit the 1.3L Zuk motor".
Soooooooooooooooo....if there is an adapter from say Calmini that adapts the 1.6L Suzuki motor to the 1.3L tranny and if there is an adapter from say Lightning conversions that adapts the VW diesel to the 1.3L Suzuki tranny .............Why couldn't you bolt a Calmini 1.6L adapter to the back of a 1.3L engine and then bolt a 1.6L bellhousing to the Calmini adapter and then a Ringer to adapt the toy tranny etc.,etc.,.........I know it confuses me too.
And then of course why would you not be able to do this with the VW conversion also( I'm not going to try and explain that again)
Any way just a thought and way to many adapters to say the least..........engine-adapter-bellhousing-adapter-transmission-transfer case-adapter-transfer case=second mortgage!!!
So POR BB participants, what are your opinions, ideas, pros and cons.

scwafish 02-10-2002, 08:15 AM Its been my pleasure...sorry to hear POR is giving you the boot:(
T1H5_TA3 02-10-2002, 06:56 PM the only problem that i see with stacking adapters is that eventualy you run out of room.. ie: input shaft wont reach etc...

why not take the radiator cap off a Zuk and drive a Toyota under it?
that would save a ton of money and time.....lol
Gozuki 02-10-2002, 08:33 PM BOOT? WHAT BOOT? This better be a joke....
scwafish 02-10-2002, 10:03 PM I think Seabass gave him the boot.

What was the reason? Did something happen that I missed?

0ILBURNER 02-11-2002, 06:29 AM If you look closely at a 1.6L adapter, you'll see that many of the mounting bolts are counter-sunk, allowing bolts to go in one way. This would cause problems using it in "reverse'fashion" However you could still use it for a template.
If the aftermarket vendors are listening, the best way to design a new VW kit would be to use a Sidekick 2wd tranny instead of the Samurai transmission. (I head once that P'works was looking at this) Then I would think the Ringr would be fairly easy to bolt up.
scwafish 02-11-2002, 07:15 AM The bass man had been on Kerrys case since the twin stick fiasco, bad chemistry after that. Kerry made a minor mistake on the for sale section and bass man kept deleting everything without a heads up (as he usually does). Kerry took it personally and vented on the bass. The bass gave him the boot.
I agree with the deisel, I read a lot of posts about the sami trani not surviving with the extra torque. Hows yours been Smokey?

It's been fine so far, but I don't use my rig as often as many others.

Hell, I just exploded a sammi tranny in december, and it was only mounted to a 1.6L 8v...
I guess it's all in how you thrash it :D

That's a consideration that I bet Kerry didn't think of but should.

.That"s the best idea so far, I know myself that I try like hell to keep my rig as original as I can but there are some shortcomings that you just have to deal with by using a different manufacturer

Who is Kerry and what is the twin stick fiasco all about and further more who is this guy named bass? He may be one of my "school chums" or a lost relative.....we could be related..................you see I was adopted, that's why my name ends with "bastard",........ Mom had a fling with a cod in '49!
EMIEVEL 02-12-2002, 11:49 AM For a second there, I thought Seabastard was this other guy, but he got the boot for some reason! You should check out the SOS adapter, it's pretty cool.

We kind got off topic on this. I'm still left wondering will this idea work. As I see it if you can get the reverse engeinering to work. that adapter if it its the same as the 1.6 to samurai adapter thats about 1/4 inch. The Ringer is only 1.5 inches and lets say that you use a marlin crawler thats about 4in (guessing). That about 5.75 in of adapters and it is still shorter than the toyota set up with a 22r tranny two t-cases and a crawler adapter.
Keith
bogger12 02-16-2002, 09:44 AM I can see the advantage of being shorter and I think it probably
would work but cost of a marlin + 1.6 adapt. wouldnt it be cheaper to put in a 1.6 and bellhousing and just use the Ringer
to begin with. I guess I'm just looking at the cost side my o2
but I can see where the proposed would work. and the advantage of having more options would eventually bring the price down on all around maybee.
