These drill bits have seen abuse and they have not lost their dullness after 2 years of abuse... havent sharpened them yet and they still have life.. i could drill a 3/4 hole with no pilot hole easy.... i love em... best bang for the buck....

Beats paying 15-30 just for one drill bit....

Those may work out nicely and I may have to try them...but my last set of bits were northern brand (and the ones before that were black and decker or other crap). After buying a nice set of bits it's like night and day between the two. The northern bits were absolute crap.

Blue Collar Supply sometimes has killer deals on new HSS bits up to 15/16" with 1/2" shanks for less than $10

I've got that exact same Northern set, had it for maybe three years. I've broken several and dulled others. For the money it's decent but I wouldn't say it's spectacular.

Northern doesn't make anything themselves so I'd guess those are HF bits, just like all their power tools are HF.

A 3/4" hole with no pilot? Wow, you musta got a better batch than me.

amen, brother. I love/hate that place. If they would just carry some round tube, it would be perfect.

I'm glad you got a good set. I've found it's not worth my time, energy and frustration to use cheap bits. That set and the 100 piece recently found a new home in my trash can. HSS and a drill doctor, you can't go wrong. Good luck with them. Scott.

Eggsactly, unless there are extenuating circumstances, I'll consider using a hole saw every time.

keep in mind those are 118 deg bits.... Better to use 135deg bits like the HF ones... bought those and they are OK at best from the start (i.e. not too sharp)..... but damn if they don't get the job done.... $15.99 right now

.... afterusing them a few times I sharpened them on my Drill Doctor,,,, whoa,,, do they kick AZZ after that !!!!

take the $15.99 bits and manually sharpen them... really. what have you got to lose there Beaver Cleaver......

Nope

Another vote for HSS+Drill Doctor. Hole saws for big ones most times.

Dont go cheep on hole saws :shaking:
