Hey there Ford folks,
I bought me a plow truck, a 79 F250.
First idiotic question - where is the VIN?
This NP435 Tranny is sweet!

From my Chilton
On 1974 and later models, the VIN is embossed on a plate located on the upper left(drivers side) corner of the dashboard, near the windshield.
Make sure paint or windshield sealer didn't cover it up. 20 years of gunk can make them hard to see sometimes.
NP435's Are awesome! I love mine. Cheap too!
Come grasshopper, learn the ways of the Ford side.:flipoff2:

On my 1979 Ford F250 the VIN code is on a plate rivited to the drivers door under the latch. It is a 11 digit code (not like the later 17 digit code). And about that Chilton's BS(I have never put all my faith in to chiltons). They didn't put VIN codes on the dash till 1980. They also can be found on top of the frame under the passanger's feet, on the underside of the box on a tag and stamped in to the cowl under the dash.
I hope this is of some assistance to you. Here is a web site that will help you decode the VIN.Ford Truck VIN Decoder Ring (http://www.medicine.wisc.edu/~mrm/bronco/ftvin.cgi)
I love my np435, np205, and my D60

Can't say I put much faith into the chiltons either, just trying to help. Well, I've got to go start a fire now :nuke:

Many thanks for the help guys.
I've always had a bit of a love / hate thing with Ford, but man they sure can build a drivetrain like no-one else...or could, anyway.
I'm off to look for a VIN.
Doncha just love new junk?
I already love this thing - even though the body and frame are gone.

Okey Dokey then - it's been rebodied at least once - according to the decoder ring:
Model Year: 77
Series: F100 - 4x2 Pickup
Engine: 8 Cyl, 302ci (5.0L) 2bbl
Assembly Plant: Ontario Truck
Transmission: No code selected
Front Axle: No code selected
Rear Axle: No code selected
And sadly, after 23 years plowing duty in Canada - I fear none of the other locations are likely to yield a legible number.
Thanks for the help

You need to go buy a chevy for a plow truck as you will now start upgrading your jeep with the ford and will need a plow truck again and it helps to have one that has nothing that would enhance your heep

I AM that guy....
My Cherokee basically lives on top of a Ford chassis and running gear...
If I were to trip across a decent 5.8L FI motor....that'll find it's way over to the 435 in the garage....and walla!!
Welcome to the proceedings Bill...
Mine burned the stock 4.0L motor on Saturday....so it's off to Ford powerplant hunting we go.

Sorry buddy...I've been saving all the hardcore parts for 5 years now to put together the ultimate truck that is exactly what I want...
My wife sometimes refers to me as "the packrat".... never throw out what you might need tomorrow! :D
In a word....no.
