is this a good idea or a good way to die?

If the bolt is big enough and supported at both ends (double shear) You will probably survive for a while.

I've got a bunch stacked on my shelf and they haven't killed me...but I'll let you know if one attacks :D

Just make sure you use spacers like what avalanche sells so that you are able to get full range of motion out of the heims:D

No problem, go large, use grade 9 fasteners,
and if you can mount them in double shear.
I run a 6,500+ pound Big Bronco, locked,
36 TSL and all the trails I can use with no problems.

EDIT: I should have said, No problem...IF your running small tires like I am, bigger tires, or heavy truck, and you will start wollowing out the hole in the knuckle. Running them in double shear will delay this somewhat.

What size bolts and heims are those? I'm setting up my zuk with a similar setup. If it works for that big boy, it should be bomb proof on my rig!

What size bolts and heims are those? I'm setting up my zuk with a similar setup. If it works for that big boy, it should be bomb proof on my rig! The Rod ends are 3/4 x 3/4 XM12 from QA1, the fasteners are 3/4 16, grade 9 by F911. For many using a larger rod end then bushing down the bore, or using a larger rod end, that has a small bore is a good idea, as both will be somewhat stronger, and will have more deg of movement. BUT that means your using a smaller fastener to attach it to the knuckle. If you can design it so the rod end is not stacked, and in double shear, a small fastener would be no problem, and IMHO better designed. But if you have limitations, then go with the larger fastener. Now some engineer is going to pick this post to death, and start throwing out shear specs of fasteners, axial loads for rod ends etc etc, and they may be right, but from my own
experience, and that of those rigs I've built and seen built and wheeled, the above holds true. Of course I could be wrong and just lucky

try www.spidertrax.com for other bits for heims as well.

that is the same thing that I am going to run, I am running 3/4x3/4 12 heims ane the tires are 33x14 boggers. So if it has worked for you with 36's, my33's will be fine then.

Thanks for the input guys, This is why I like this sight.:smokin:

Will grade 8 be good enough?
