ALL semi-float Cruiser axles use C Clips.

In the US, 1993 marked the beginning of the FF axle with the FZJ-80.

1993-1997, 63" wide

Foreign markets have FJ-60 FF axles that the US third member will fit in as do the FJ-40 FF axles. They are 58" and 55" wide respectively.

Specter off road SOR.COM (the Cruiser equivelant to TAP) has these FF axles for sale for $650 minus the 3rd member.

Good Luck!

A warn full floater kit for the rear is typically cheaper and definetly stronger that locating a TLC FF. In addition, it is simple to convert to disk.

Cool, thanks. Why is the Warn FF kit stronger than an overseas FF axle? What parts are stronger? The FF FZJ-80 axles I've taken apart were beefy as heck.

Downey sells disk brake brackets for the factory FF axles too so a DB conversion on a factory drum FF is not too hard. Has anyone mentioned the factory disk brake FF axle?

Kman, how is the spare parts supply for the Warn FF? Aren't those discontinued?

Drew, if you get a factory FF axle, get a 1979+ that has a better spindle seal.

I don't have any plans for building a full-floating FJ axle, just want to learn more about 'Cruiser axles for possible use in other vehicles.

I am not familiar with the 80 series axles. The warn shaft is a higher strength than the cruiser (early) axle. In addition, the hub is stronger.

Here is a promo for more http://www.tpilandcruiser.com/lcinp10_1.html

The shafts are reasonable too replace too. I do not know how much a 80 series FF shaft would be.

Drew,

Your above message indicates a possible misconception that only overseas markets have the FF rear axle. Starting in '93, all 80s in the US got rear discs and the FF axle. Supposedly there are a few oddballs around (as always) with drums in '93, but I've never seen or heard of one. There are no durability issues with these axles and the bonus is that they are common with the factory electric locker and there are 4.88 gears available. I'm pretty sure all US stockers from that year on (to the end of the US 80 with the 97MY) are 4.10s.

A set of these axles with factory F/R electric lockers would make for one rockin' Sammi. The fronts also have no durability issues as the 80 birfield is roughly twice the size of the prior Toyota joints. They do retain the axle seal service every 80,000 miles or so :-(. Both axles are also setup for elevated diff vents with a factory hose nipple, and as you know this is also a high pinion axle.

Send us a pic of the Sammi when it happens, eh?

Make? As in fire up your own foundry and start making a casting? Or are you saying there are cheaper full floater axles to put under a Sammi?

Yup, I knew the post-'93 80's series often had FF rears in the States (I've parted out several of them), but I didn't realize how common they are. That axle is too wide for a Zuki though, but a 55" overseas FF 40 series would be perfect.

Can the 80 birfield be used in the mini truck axle??? How about in an FJ60 axel???
